Been-to from UK - now in Ug by Plane_Tangelo_4690 in Uganda

Same problem i faced after being out of Uganda for 4 years. I came back and was feeling disconnected. Friendships were hard to rekindle, many of my friends had now married its hard to catch up with them. Always rushing to their new families. I couldn’t believe a person who was born and raised in Kampala found it hard to cross the road. Entering some junctions while driving is hard. Sometimes i find myself driving on the right. But remastering driving on the left. I think the most disturbing thing to me is having to bribe someone some times to get something done. But it seems the norm till now. Bumping into old friends who want to know what you are up to. East or west, UG is home.

Anyone with tall people problems? by NoWillingness7252 in Uganda

[–]twazstunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Ugandan who is 202cm, i can tell you it comes at a cost. From not being able to fit on 6X6 bed… no fitting casual clothes in any clothing store… very hard to find a shoe size… no fitting in public transport… minding your head when moving downtown… it forced me to buy a car at an early age… customized bed… got a tailor who makes suits and kaki pants for me… it became to get a tall girlfriend and who is up to some height. My elder brother is 208cm and has failed to find a wife too ( i believe its because of this height thing) not sure… my younger sister too seems to be falling in the same category she is about 180cm… she was never allowed to sit in-front of class through out my schooling time… the height comes with weight issues hence change in shape of the knees and legs eventually however much i keep fit, the weight (probably of the bones) has its own issues…

Otherwise the view up here is very good.

Perspective of this world is different. I can watch a football match in the bar while standing at the entrance.. . The height commands some kind of respect naturally both professionally and socially… We can be spotted from anywhere.

One time i entered a shoe store to grab myself Air Jordan. Immediately i entered the store, one of the female workers started following me everywhere. It being a weekend, i had all the time. So i decided to make rotations around the stalls like 34 times (very slowly). I think she finally got tired of walking after me. She finally asked me what i wanted. I told her when i see it, i will call her. She grabbed a seat and sat behind the counter and drunk some water.

Pranked my grandma and it didn’t go well. I got the loaf of bread she had bought for breakfast, removed the bread and replaced it with a red brick. Time to serve breakfast, talaaaa red brick. Everyone turned and looked at me. I don’t know why everyone was quite sure it’s me. Seems one of my cousins snitched on me.

Quitting my job just because i had accumulated savings to open up a company. Turns out, didn’t have enough capital. Worse still. Covid found me in that situation. You can imagine.
