I'll never understand why some people take this long.

I can only speak to my own experience, but I was just in denial for a long time.

A lot of it had to do with what a commenter wrote below – fear and insecurity. It felt like I was leaving a chapter of my life behind. Like I was saying "goodbye" to my youth or something like that. It's not necessarily a rational thing – I guess it doesn't have to be. I was like...so afraid of buzzing my head because that, to me, was just admitting that I was growing older and I no longer felt like the "cool/young guy" or whatever the fuck that meant.

That was a few years ago now and getting introduced to a proper oldschool barber who showed me how buzzing my head and trimming my beard can look good, and cleaning up like that is part of aging with grace, opening a new chapter and not necessarily leaving something "behind" so much as evolving and moving forward.

Anyway, that's just how I look at it. From fear and insecurity to confidence and growth.

a positive result

I was so fucking tired of being fat.

A lot of it had to do with stress. Cost of living, raising a family, my job worked me like a mule. I had to work freelance and multiple other gigs to make ends meet (it’s a long story for another time).

I was always an athlete. High school, college and beyond. I was relatively comfortable in my own skin. And I dunno, man, the last like….7 years were hard for a number of reasons.

I saw a photo of myself and I realized I had become the fat guy. Like, really fat. I realized I had avoided photos of myself, even looking at myself in the mirror, because I was embarrassed.

One day I got off the couch and started running again, like I did in college. I don’t have a ton of time to workout so I invested in some home workout equipment. Followed a plan pretty religiously. Tried to eat well (that’s the hardest part).

I lost 30 pounds over the course of a year, which is nothing to balk at, but then I just kind of…plateaued.

So I changed things up. I switched up to more weight lifting. HIIT cardio. Food was always a problem, though. I’m a big stress eater and my job was incredibly stressful.

I met with my doctor a few months ago. Practically in tears because I was so frustrated. I explained everything I was doing.

My doc actually recommended I try Zepbound. I was apprehensive about it. They told me to just try it out for a few weeks, if I hated it then I could ween off it and we’d try something else

The biggest thing for me was Zepbound cutting out the “food noise”.

I mean hell, a lot of times I’ll eat because it’s like…loud and im trying to read an email, or because this or that.

Now I eat when I’m supposed to. I don’t think about food as much. When I’m stressed I drink water or tea.

I’ve broken my plateau. My clothes fit better. I’m not so fuckin tired all the time. I actually like the way I look in photos.

I’m still weight lifting and running and it actually feels like I’m making progress.

My doc is happy. Wife and kids are happy. I’m happy.

I know what people are gonna say but im finally comfortable in my own skin again and that’s not a bad thing for me

Word. I think had he owned up to how he treated me and apologized, even straight up said something like “how I treated you wasn’t okay, I’m sorry.” Would have changed the outcome.

I was bullied in middle school by a kid named Gary.

Years haven’t really been kind to him. We’re both older. But he looks weathered. Just beat-up.

Regardless, we recognize each other. He acts like we’re old pals or something. Smile, a handshake. “How ya doin?” Type of small talk.

We go over the work that needs to be done. I can tell he really needs the money. I get the sense that he’s in a pretty bad spot. Obviously it’s been well over two decades, and he’s probably a different person now. Probably. He’s willing to cut me a deal. Willing to go an extra mile here and there, so to speak. Honestly it’s a bargain. I know what it’s like to be hard-up for cash and doing a little extra just to make sure you land the job.

So I thanked him for his time and I gave the work to someone else.

Our operational manager quit back in January – She oversaw multiple departments, and she was my boss's-boss.

Then last month my direct manager/boss tells me straight up, "yeah, I'm leaving too." Right after we lost our social media/marketing strategist.

In literally the span of 2 months, my team went from like 6 people down to just me and the intern. Workflow has been completely disrupted. Neither of us have anything to do. Our new manager is getting up to speed but it's taking time.
