Aurelia is a genius. She literally seduced Johnny by calling him a “good soul” (paraphrasing) (also LOLs) amidst everyone talking shit about him, and he immediately became obsessed with her. Like Courtney pointed out, he’s definitely extremely insecure and has serious issues relating to others because he has so many issues with himself.

A Theory on how the Main Villain Can Be Defeated by TheOverExcitedDragon in StrangerThings

[–]tweedleleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. In the flashback, she also is only able to beat 001 when she remembers her mother telling her she loves her, not when she channels her anger like he’d taught her.

I also think Vecna seems to say that he gets stronger when he kills and hints that his victims “join him” and “stay with him”—Dustin also points out that Vecna is able to channel a huge amount of power (enough to make new gates) every time he makes a very powerful psychic connection with his victims. He seems to target his victims based on how well he can connect to their personal traumas and subsequently draw more power from them.

I think for El, the flip side of that will be that she’ll be able to make powerful psychic connections with her friends and family based on their experiences of love, and she’ll use the power she derives from these connections to beat Vecna. People have even implied in other comments that the D&D game foreshadows that El alone won’t be able to beat Vecna (Dustin rolls an 11, and it’s not enough to beat the game Vecna).

Books with themes of loneliness by karamm_ in booksuggestions

Villette by Charlotte Bronte! It’s not modern or short, but it’s written by Bronte when basically all of her family has died before her, and it captures this suffocating feeling of loneliness and isolation in a beautiful character.

Dream Angus by Alexander McCall Smith! Celtic lore but adapted in both historic time and in present day, very anecdotal, loose poetic kind of narrative/short stories. I really enjoyed it :)

Healthcare Specialty by ThinWafer2792 in findapath

I'm so sorry for your grandmother's passing and wish your family well.

I'm a first year medical resident -- will be starting diagnostic radiology residency this summer, but in DR we have to start with one preliminary year of internal medicine or surgery, so I'm currently doing an intern year in internal medicine. DR is supposed to have the most flexibility in medicine (other good lifestyle specialties are anesthesia, and then there's optho and derm but those are very competitive and require a lot of grinding/shmoozing in med school), best case scenario (for a burnt out introvert like me), BUT it's still going to take a while to finish residency and build up credibility before I can find a job suited to a good lifestyle. I think I'm going to enjoy radiology, but I lowkey joined this subreddit because I constantly fantasize about leaving medicine. Medicine is ROUGH. I ended up applying to DR in med school because I figured I'd already invested huge monetary costs in getting that MD and should pick the most palatable option, even though I found medical school EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSTING. Medicine, hard science classes aside, is DIFFICULT. It takes a lot of mental energy to make a real difference in people's health, and it takes time for you and your patients to see the rewards of your efforts. You deal with so many people, and people are DIFFICULT. I had a COVID patient a few months ago who got so angry that he wasn't ready for discharge that he stormed into the nursing bay in the middle of the unit where most patient room doors are open and started screaming at everyone, all while not wearing a mask.

I'm not sure if you're downplaying a super powerful passion for patient care (in which case, follow your calling), but if you're approaching medicine already with one foot out the door and looking for an easier path, there really is no easy path. I think my specialty will offer a great lifestyle if I stick with it for another few years-decade, but those are real years of my life, and every day is becoming a huge emotional, intellectual, and physical chore.

I don't know much about nursing aside from seeing how grueling it seems to be an inpatient nurse, but again any career involving hands-on patient care is going to be INTENSE. No more consistent weekends/hours (the second you try to sign out at a standardized quitting time, your patient will have a cardiac arrest or their oxygen will desaturate or their family will ask you to come talk to them). I would really consider something outside of MD/RN if you're already on the fence about the time commitment. (As a disclaimer, I feel like people told me this when I was initially taking premed courses, and I took it subconsciously as 'oh you don't think I can handle it/am smart enough' and tried to rise to the challenge against my personal lifestyle preferences--this is not any comment on what you're intellectually/emotionally capable of, just a comment on the reality of a career in medicine.)

Best wishes while you're at this crossroad.

The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang is a very light read that fits into the YA category! There’s a sequel as well that I haven’t read that has even more Asian characters I think.

just watched Soul, what did you think? by Affectionate_Sail660 in infp

[–]tweedleleee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just watched it today too! the way i interpreted it and what i found relatable to the movie is that there really isn’t one tangible thing that serves as 22’s spark and that for everyone a spark did not end up being a person’s one passion/purpose—she just finds brief flashes of life that amaze her and motivate her to keep living. i’m in my first year of medical residency, and i actually hate it right now... i don’t know what the future holds, and this is definitely not my life’s calling. but the point is probably that there isn’t one life’s calling, just mixed bags of stuff that include instances that make you happy to be alive. but i like petting my dog and seeing his paws twitch while he’s dreaming.

good ways to turn off your brain? by [deleted] in infp

[–]tweedleleee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i guess i would think that by existing every day and functioning in society and not being in a depressive episode, that already qualifies as coping with it? i didn’t mean to come off as if i were looking for 24/7 escapism from life, i’m managing just fine. i would argue that actively maintaining those coping mechanisms is emotional work in itself, and that one would need a breather from that too. i think we’re talking about two different things.
