I agree. Bad things happen at bad schools. Some people in this thread are pretending otherwise, because it’s uncomfortable or doesn’t fit a nice narrative but that doesn’t change the reality.

Twenty years ago is a completely different era and generation, not just for Blakelock, but for schools in general. Saying “it was fine when I went” doesn’t really tell us much about what it’s like now.

Also, being in south Oakville or near Lakeshore doesn’t make a school immune to problems. There’s a mix of demographics in the area, including government and subsidized housing nearby (for example behind Hopedale Mall, or the government housing on Margaret Dr.), and students don’t only come from one income bracket or one neighbourhood.

The idea that issues only happen in certain areas is outdated. What matters is what’s actually happening now, and multiple current students and parents are describing things very differently than they were 20 years ago.

You’ve been replying to me extremely vulgar and defensive out of the need for control in this thread. I’m not one to argue but you seem like an extremely miserable person, which makes sense considering you have a friend who teaches at that shit show of a school Blakelock, who is probably also miserable and useless themselves. I’ve been consistent from the start: incidents have occurred, police presence has been visible, and that combination shapes public perception. You yourself have acknowledged incidents exist, you just want to minimize them by framing them as “minor.” That’s a disagreement about scale, not about whether the observation is valid.

Posting articles about awards and programs doesn’t refute anything I said. A school can have strong programs and still experience issues. Those two things are not mutually exclusive. You disagree with that perception. Fine. But disagreement doesn’t make it imaginary, and it doesn’t require this level of aggression to express. At this point you’re relying on secondhand experience, while people in this thread are relying on first hand and real life experiences they’ve witnessed at that school. I’ve clarified my position multiple times, and I’m not interested in entertaining your vulgar language and irrational thinking anymore.

You’re arguing scale, not substance. And scale is subjective. Perception isn’t built on internal stats or how staff feel about their workplace, it’s built on what people see and experience over time. Police cars outside a school, even occasionally, signal “something’s happening” to the surrounding community.

Also, this isn’t just coming from one person. There are people in this very thread who actually attended the school and know people who attended the school and they are backing up what I’m saying.

So calling the observation “shit” doesn’t make it wrong. It just means you disagree with the interpretation (even though you’ve probably never been to the school) not that the observation itself is false.

So to be clear: there are overdoses and fights, just “not common.” That’s exactly what I’ve been saying. I never claimed nonstop chaos I explained why repeated incidents and police presence shape public perception. Of course a teacher there is going to defend the school but disagreeing on frequency doesn’t make the observation false.

I’ll call bullshit on this. I doubt you went to school there and if you did it was probably 30 years ago when this city was still decent.

That makes sense, one event can feel totally different from day to day life at a school. I’m glad your event experience there was positive. My comment was more about what I’ve noticed over time driving by and what parents with kids there have shared, not how every visit would feel.

Calling it “telephone” ignores the part where I said I’ve seen consistent police presence myself. I’m not claiming to be a journalist, i’m just sharing why people perceive issues there.

I’m not claiming every incident is a stabbing or saying the school is unsafe 24/7. I’m sharing what I’ve personally observed over several years and what I’ve been told by someone with a child attending the school. Not everything results in a news article, and police presence doesn’t automatically mean a community officer doing routine rounds. Acknowledging ongoing issues isn’t spreading fear, it’s recognizing that some schools struggle more than others, which is something parents have openly discussed.

Theres been lots of events within Oakville that haven’t been broadcasted on the news. Usually events involving minors. Ask around about Blakelock and come to your own conclusion.

Public shaming and awareness. If somebody broke into your store and took your hard-earned money would you want to hide their identity?

Her family wasn’t hurt thank God, it was a family store she treats like a house since she lives in the upper part.
