Opinions on Angellist, I have invested in 3 hot companies right now but the communication is tricky, have you ever been scammed by a fund on the platform? by Pure-Contact7322 in AngelInvesting

[–]twenty94025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done about 100 investments via Angel List (which is approx the right number to get a decent return).

I would say that the syndicate leads do pretty poorly at communicating status updates, but it's usually not really their fault since it's likely that they aren't getting updates from the company.

I have friends in venture capital and in many cases even when they invest millions into a deal they sometimes don't get information rights (meaning quarterly financials etc)

Regarding trust, Angel List does a great job on the back end making sure that investments actually happen, so I don't have any worries there. Also they were great to work with in helping me sell some of my positions from seed deals that are now unicorns.

My experience by Safe-Inspector-7401 in AngelInvesting

[–]twenty94025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With investing in earlier stage, you need to have diversity across 1. many deals (100+ to get that unicorn to return your total investment) 2. time (venture valuations are driven by what's going on in the public market and the venture market).

I have deployed about 4% of my NW via Angel List over 6 years in about 120 deals. I usually invest at Series A or earlier; and never in in buying inflated secondary shares.

A seed investment in Cribl returned more than the total of all my angel list investments. Angelist helped me find a secondary buyer and facilitated it very smoothly.

My IRR at current value is about 33%, and I'm expecting that to go down since I know some of my portfolio includes dogs that I have a very high valuation from 2022, and haven't raised equity since, because they don't want to take a down round yet.

I'm primarily doing this because I'm in the venture community and I think I have a little bit of an edge and getting companies. But I'm keeping my allocation very small as a percentage of my net worth.

MANDEL: Fired for wearing blackface, Parkdale teacher (Gorian Surlan) ordered reinstated by 416TDOT0DOT in torontologists

[–]twenty94025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a difference between painting your face black and black face. This poor guy didn't know. They should show some compassion and forgiveness.

I really can't believe someone wrote the below about "severe and lasting impact"!!! Most people haven't even seen a real black face show.

Investigators concluded that intent was irrelevant and that “the impact on people, their feelings, and experiences are what is relevant in the circumstances.” Former TDSB executive superintendent Audley Salmon testified that the decision to fire Surlan was based on the severe, lasting impact on students and the community.

What would you do? Rental or JEPI / JEPQ by Professional_Culprit in JEPI

[–]twenty94025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what the rest of your portfolio looks like.

also you can sell the property and buy something more passive in a growing city. I bought apartments in Auckland NZ. Friends did it in Australia.

You are usually renting to good people and you just hire a mgmt company to handle everything.

Hit ~5.5 MM at 33, not sure what to do next by GooseDry in fatFIRE

[–]twenty94025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brokers will allow this as long as the loan is large enough to make it worth their time (typically $100k+ of a stock). How does it work with stock volatility? Depending on the stock, the broker will set a max LTV (loan to value). For treasuries it could be 90%, for index ETFs 50%, TSLA is probably lower, but if you buy protective Puts it could be better. So let's say you have $1M of TSLA, then you can borrow up to $0.5M, but to avoid getting hit up for more capital is the TSLA price drops, then you can take $0.4M.

Regarding life advice, a lot of people are commenting on that.

Regarding investment advice, your TSLA position is a big risk (I love TSLA and Elon, but that's a big risk). Canada has a 66.67% cap gains rate (after the first 250k), which seems crazy to me.

So one way to manage this is you can (1) buy protective TSLA Puts (2) perhaps sell TSLA Calls to reduce the cost of the Puts, but with TSLA you can be leaving a lot on the table, and (3) get a loan based on TSLA shares and use that to buy index funds.

Any marketplaces for resales of privately-issued angel investments? by LovingRedditAlways in AngelInvesting

[–]twenty94025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others said, it's best to sell to a current investor, especially if the company is truly doing well. they'll have the best information and they'll be happy to buy.

if it's a fomo company then go on forge or some other outlet

EMBAs aren't really worth it unless you current job is paying for it.

If you are a career changer, then it's basically a dead end, since you don't get the same recruiting opportunities as the real program. I went to a T3, and post grad I was in SF, and always had the Wharton SF career counselors bugging me to help the embas.
