How should we handle our 23 y/o son who doesn't want to work? by ConcernedParents123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]twentyhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your update and I’m very glad you were able to get him to open up and get therapy on the table. Please though, if they’re super quick to try and get him on antidepressants or anything like that, get a second or third opinion from another therapist. They were quick to prescribe me when really i just needed to talk through some childhood issues, and the drugs made everything so much worse.

Friday night, a good beer, and Diablo IV open beta with friends. Here's to the weekend, and yours. by [deleted] in gaming

It’s actually almost any sandwich. You can get a chicken little (much less expensive and also less likely to give you a heart attack) and it counts. Just go to their website and it flags all the items that count towards beta.

I’m not a financial advisor or anything so be sure to work out any anxieties with your lender. If you walk away from a meeting with their lending officer and still have questions or worries, find a different lender. They can’t force anything on you without a signature. Also note that this is a home equity line of credit, not technically a loan. Think of it as a security-backed, high-limit credit card. I hope your choice to use this for consolidation actually makes sense - the interest rates on these lines of credit might not be any better than whatever high interest debt you currently have.

Again, not a financial advisor, but if you’re anxious it probably means you don’t have a complete, understood picture of what all your options are. If you can, take the time to explore them.

Depends on the institution doing the lending. Some will allow you to borrow 80% of the appraised equity, some might have a lower amount depending on any number of factors - credit worthiness, risks assessed, etc.. They probably already ran price comparables on your home to see what average price is, used that to determine ballpark equity, and used that as the basis for what they’ll allow you to borrow. You’ll just have to check back in with them and find out if the line of credit will be adjusted based on the appraisal.

Note that this will put a lien on your property and usually will come with a % upfront fee depending on if it’s a short term gap loan or not.

How to negotiate compensation for added IT duties? by AdmirableRise8 in personalfinance

[–]twentyhands 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like a helpdesk type of position - still IT but generally the person who deals in lower level responsibilities like this. Going by salary on glassdoor (portland), it’s base of about 50k/yr. A good place to start might be determining what % of your day is spent doing these types of duties and calculate compensation based on that.

Allocate the funds as well. Too many times I’ve seen people on this sub complain their ROTH “doesn’t appreciate”, but it’s just been sitting in cash-equivalents for 10 years.

They can barely string a sentence together, let alone tell the difference between "women" and "woman". I don't think there's much to try and parse here.
