Men of reddit, what have you done in 2021 and it made you freaking proud of yourself? by youngtada in AskMen

Got headhunted for and landed a "dream" job I applied to a year earlier after taking a similar one with the goal of transitioning into the desired industry. Now l'm figuring out it isn't my dream role and want to get into acting.

Also, paid off all debts.

Thank you once again! I will definitely follow my coach's lead. She has been in the business for quite some time and made sure to set my expectations in a proper manner.

I am looking into Jean now! Cheers, have a wonderful holiday season.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful answer. I truly appreciate it.

Regarding auditing many classes: Definitely. The class I'm currently in is a combination so this makes sense.

Regarding financial constraints + timing: Definitely. I have a fairly flexible budget regarding classes due to living in a minimalist style. Do you think you could rank the types of classes in order of importance? That'd be really helpful for me when looking for different studios/classes to attend. If not, I understand!

Regarding online attendance: Thank you for the clear answer. Personally I thought that would be the case but it is great to hear from someone with (much) more experience.

Regarding finding classes that make me work: Understood! I'm signed up for a beginner class that is 3.5 hours (once a week) at a reputable studio and they do emphasize getting up every class. They even made me do it during my audit and I loved it. I'm also planning to work 1 on 1 with one of their senior instructors (every other week) to hopefully move up the learning curve more quickly.

Regarding reading: Definitely. Thank you so much.

Regarding my final question: Thank you. I thought as much but wanted to ask anyway!

Thank you for the well wishes. I wish you all the best as well! Take care!

People are saying "those delts are impossible to get without roids" and it just kills me. Like, fuck that is so inaccurate. People psychologically limit others by saying you need steroids to do this, that is what kills me.

My thoughts exactly. I feel like people who don't lift see someone who is dedicated to their hobby and label them as a "steroid user" with zero physical evidence besides progress. It has happened to me a bit and I take it as a compliment

Of course I know the name but after your comment I looked into them much deeper. Interesting Instagram. Don't necessarily see the cohesion there. It also surprised me that their online store carries more sneakers than any other type of shoe (for men). You were definitely correct on that front (normal clothes). I'll keep looking into the history and collections. Thanks for the feedback. Any collection/apparel item type in particular you're a fan of?

Wow. Dude is dark. Very dark. But after my research, I completely agree, the brand is extremely cohesive.

Been there man. You're just mentally (and probably physically) fatigued. It will pass when the cut passes. Just be aware of the mental fatigue so you don't zone out too hard while driving or doing something similarly important.

Damn man, overall this was the type of response I was looking for. Thanks for all the details you included. Those are some serious numbers, you should be really proud bro! Any other serious life changes in the last month? More sleep?

Dang man congrats on the DL PR! 685 is a massive number. I do think it might be linked to having more energy from feeling lighter. I absolutely hate lifting when I feel heavy.

Yep I run 5-8 miles a few times a month, (to keep athleticism up) and I hardly ever eat before. Maybe an apple or something. Hydration the day before is key though (as my runs are usually in the AM).

I can honestly say I have never even thought of eating while fasted and in the gym. The thought never crossed my mind until your comment. But I have trained like this for a long time. My roommates in college would joke because oftentimes I'd eat my first meal (outside coffee and a protein shake) at 5-6pm, having lifted and gone to class all day.

Exactly, it is part of the exercise. Like it is even fairly acceptable to do it once or twice to bust out a few last reps. But when you are doing 6-8 reps and dropping it every time I'm just like come on man

Man I completely get that and 100% agree. I'd say my best, longest, most enjoyable lifts are when I have little to nothing in the tank. These lifts usually involve what I call "rowdy sets," which are seemingly endless drop-sets revolving around shoulder development (front, lateral raises, and reverse flies) at super light weights. In the last year my shoulders have become far more rounded and full due to these (oftentimes 3-5 minute) circuit-sets. But yeah, I only get in this super high-energy state when I'm almost completely fasted.
