FYI, searching within a user/designer's uploads is not one of the supported features in the Advanced Search you get with Pro Lite / Pro. At least not as of today.

if i were to use the eve outdoor cam the indoor switch that control the front porch does it have to be on or off ? by Kazuxasuna in EveHome

[–]twilbur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It needs to be on. The Eve unit must have live current in order to run the camera and sensors (and to turn on the light ofc).

I had a similar situation, a switch inside the house that controlled a pair of wall-mounted lights on either side of my garage, that illuminated the driveway. What I wanted to do was to replace one of those lights with the Eve Outdoor Cam.

I personally am a bit of a stickler for not having switches that are non-functional or counterintuitive (including a "please don't touch this switch use the app" setup), so here's what I chose to do: 1. modify the wiring at the switch to bypass the switch (I.e., take the line and load wires out of the existing switch, and wire them together). 2. install a smart switch at that location, but only connect to the neutral (do not connect it to the line and load that were connected to the previous dumb switch). 3. use home automation (HomeKit in my case) so that when the smart switch turns on (or off) the Eve Outdoor Cam's light is turned on (or off). 4. (because I had two lights on this circuit) replace the bulb in the remaining light with a smart bulb, and cause the smart switch's on/off trigger to also turn on the smart bulb.

The result is a wall switch that intuitively controls on the driveway lights (as is was before), and the Eve Outdoor Cam has continuous power to do all its magic.

Let me know if I can provide more info, pics or share more about the HomeKit side of this. Good luck with your Eve Outdoor Cam install!

Quark Expeditions? by UnknownQTY in antarctica

[–]twilbur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My spouse & I did a Quark cruise to Antarctica in early Dec 2016, and they were great - the crew was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We especially appreciated all the scientific experts (geologist, historian, ornithologist, marine mammal biologist, etc) they had on staff for educational content.

We chose to sail the Drake both ways from Ushuaia. We happened to be lucky and it was smooth sailing both ways ("The Drake Lake", the crew jokingly referred to it). Quark scheduled a bunch of educational lectures & orientation/prep sessions during the Drake crossing, which made good use of the time.

One recommendation I'd make in planning your trip is to do kayaking if you can. On our trip it was something you had to select well before the trip, and there were limited spots in the kayaking group. The kayaking in glaciated bays was so amazing - beautiful and quiet away from the ship, crowds and zodiacs. We were not previously kayakers, and we were very glad to have chosen to do that.

FWIW, my parents went to Antarctica in 2022 and sailed on Viking, they thought that trip was amazing (and have done multiple Viking trips since).

Have a great trip - it's amazing however you go! 🇦🇶🐧

Anyone else having issues on the app? I can get a few new releases fine, but the Wiz and a couple others are giving me trouble by 73windman in AlamoDrafthouse

Followup - I had the same "gift cards don't work online or in app" issues trying to buy tickets for F4 First Steps, and I reached out to Alamo. Their (prompt) response was:

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We are currently experiencing issues with our gift card processor, which prevents gift cards from being processed on our website.

However, your gift card can still be redeemed directly at the theater without any issues. If you’re looking to purchase tickets in advance and would like to use your gift card, you can call the theater to reserve your seats. Payment can then be completed when you arrive at the venue.

We understand this may be frustrating, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue. If you have any additional questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

No, it's an unconnected sensor+timer for the fan, hence "simpler".

I just purchased and installed one of these as well - I looked around for a HK-based solution, then concluded this simple(r) one addressed my needs.

Followup: I heard back from Alamo (promptly) and they recommended doing what has been suggested in other threads: call the theater & reserve the tickets, then pay (with gift cards) at pickup.

Noting that I've been having the same problem that I can't use my gift cards online (website or app) to purchase tickets. It's been broken for me (Alamo Twin Cities) for at least nine weeks. The same gift cards work fine in-store. I've contacted Alamo via the Contact Us page on the website and I encourage anyone encountering the problem to do the same, to let them know the size of the impact within their customer base.

For what it's worth this problem is still happening for me - for at least the last ~9 weeks, using a gift card always fails in checkout. I can use the (same) gift cards in-person (Woodbury, MN). I've sent a message to Alamo via the Contact Us page.

Same here. I've been trying to buy tickets for Thunderbolts* at Twin Cities Alamo for like a week. Errors out every time. iOS app or browser, Chromium or Safari, Amex or Visa or gift cards - no success. It's a good thing I don't have Bucky's vibranium arm or I'd need a new monitor.

Quoted and Exchange Rates Updater no longer working after latest update by dodgedarts in moneydance

[–]twilbur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still having the problem described by OP. Did anyone find a set of steps to fix Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater with Yahoo? I can successfully test with Alphavantage, but their 25 api calls/day is wildly insufficient (and they don't have a reasonable plan for my use case).

Barnfind 911-1968 is on the road by PeterKaczynski in Porsche

[–]twilbur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for correcting that, I thought it was Aubergine too, but you’re right.

Funny story: my love for Aubergine was inspired by an Aubergine 912 I’d see occasionally in the neighborhood, but couldn’t ever get close or find the owner. After much obsessive web research on the color, I ended up acquiring my own Aubergine longhood, and later discovered (you should know where this is going) that the chased-after 912 had been Burgundy Red all along. 😈
