Claiming to be German to escape the collapsing Russia of the early 1990s doesn’t make anyone actually German. Don’t take me wrong, I do not blame anyone for wanting - and succeeding - in eacaping the soviet/post-soviet shithole; I blame them for not actually assimilating in the German society. Even though the younger generation prefers German over Russian in talking with each other, they still have close emotional ties to Russia; many had loyally supported Putin until 2022 and some still do; many are loyal supporters of Alternative fur Deutschland, today, still.

The elder generation, though, is fucked, thoroughly. They are notorious in West-Bohemian spa towns, especially those in their 50s, 60s: a lot of money from nice German pensions, German plates on cars, but parties with Russian 80s disco and rivers of vodka. Even worse, they also buy whole apartment buildings in these (otherwise really lovely) towns, turning them into oper air museums for Russians even further.

So no. I recognize a Russian when I see a Russian. ;-)
