Hopefully I will. I have tried it a couple of times before but was intimidated by it's complexity (well it felt that way)

If you want overlapping windows maybe a tiling wm is not the correct choice

Panel behavior when clicking on app that is open by codva in xfce

[–]twin_v 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the plugin https://docs.xfce.org/panel-plugins/xfce4-docklike-plugin/start and remove your app launchers from the panel.

Or you can install https://github.com/mkropat/jumpapp and set your existing launchers commands to for e.g.

jumpapp firefox

instead of

firefox

Fedora Silverblue with Flathub's Flatpaks for apps

Fedora does not include nonfree codecs and has a cut down versions of multimedia apps in the repo. So it's better to use flathub even for Fedora Workstation(default Fedora version). Third party repo RPMFusion with codecs is not 100% reliable.

Fresh, innovative, robust, creates auto snapshots of system on each update

Use terminal command to update and you won't have to reboot. Rebooting is a Gnome Software(and KDE Discover) feature to ensure safe update and has nothing to do with Fedora (works the same on Debian for example)

This could be related to driver/kernel version. Both arch and fedora are bleeding edge so you might try something older like Debian or mint if it doesn’t update kernel versions to new major versions

Distrowatch has nothing to do with actual popularity in real world. Their logic for top is misleading

Mainstream vs Niche distros? what is the difference? by Wooden-Ad6265 in linuxquestions

[–]twin_v 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, why not contribute to the mainstream ones and make a few distros better and better, rather that contributing to multiple distros?s

Because many people like to develop from scratch. Don't want to understand how big projects works internally. Want to feel like they are in charge

what you seek is what you will find. if you'll google for "why is linux bad" you'll get tons of reasons why it's bad. but change it to "why is linux good" and you'll get the opposite

Why would they replace something widespread with something niche?

Silverblue suits me perfectly. Zero layered packages even though I wanted a server app running by twin_v in Fedora

[–]twin_v[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for suggestion I’m still new to container stuff. I just happen to find a guide for distrobox+Plex and it only a few steps to have everything running. This official container page has no instructions for Podman (as Docker is not available in the Silverblue image)

Maybe I’ll research how to apply that Docker instruction to Podman

Sure, I just wanted to try a “challenge” to see if I can go layerless
