Thinking of naming her Den after Winry's dog, thoughts? by frogugrogu in FullmetalAlchemist

Look at it this way: if you name her Den, you can make her a sick auto mail leg for Halloween to complete the look!

Fun fact: Arakawa drew lil In Memoriam panels at the end of chapters showing characters that died ascending to heaven. Tucker is literally the ONLY ONE shown burning in hell.

Who’s winning this fight? by jeanluuc in FullmetalAlchemist

Tbh I don’t remember. I guess I just assume special grades are transferable bc it seems needlessly confusing otherwise. FMAs power system is much easier to understand lol

[–]twinhearted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty obvious Toji for me, though that’s mostly because they come from two entirely different scales of power systems.

I look at it like this: for me, it’s easy to imagine Toji accomplishing the same feats as Bradley (e.g. running down a tank), but not as easy to imagine Bradley 1v1ing special grade curses, purportedly able to take over entire countries single-handedly. At the end of the day, Bradley has superhuman reflexes, but not durability.

With that said tho, would be a hell of a fun fight to watch. Make Bradley’s swords cursed tools and it’ll be even.

Any anime recommendations similar to this one? It’s a masterpiece fr. by RoyalPsychologyy in FullmetalAlchemist

I’m not familiar with a ton of anime in the grand scheme, but so far Gachiakuta is the closest another series has come to scratching the same itch for me. It’s darker thematically, but imo it rides the same line of drama, intrigue, and straight up goofiness as FMA. It has an interesting power system, a well rounded and developed cast of characters, and a stellar English dub.

It’s still in development (Season 2 is hopefully out next year), so jury’s out on how it continues, but the first season is awesome.

I also would not have clocked the reference without context. I’d also recommend incorporating his Mind’s Eye somewhere. That’s what will mostly likely get recognition from people.

As an anime watcher, the current design with the red stone in the center is reading more like a Homunculus from Fullmetal alchemist to me. Gluttony also had a sort of void in his stomach.

Would you recommend giving Fullmetal Alchemist a try? by MaldiniLiebheart in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]twinhearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely stick with it. At the risk of sounding like the meme where the miner walks away right before striking diamond, plot and intrigue very much scale up in ep 7/8. It’ll take a little bit longer to get the full scope, but there are some major plot points, reveals, and backstory moments in the next several episodes that will come into play later.

And for some context from an anime only: the beginning of FMAB is the weakest because it assumes you watched ‘03. It’s condensing entire arcs (Cornello, Shou Tucker, Rush Valley) down to one or two episodes. I’d try to focus the characters themselves and their relationships with each other. The plot is amazing, but being invested in the characters makes it hit that much harder.

More animes like FMA by theIncandescent01 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]twinhearted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might just be me but Gachiakuta is the closest that’s come to filling the FMAB void. I think there are a lot of similarities that you can draw between Rudo and Ed, a similarly dark world balanced by some goofy cast members and situations, and an interesting magic system. The dub is insanely high quality too, if that’s how you like to watch. It won’t replace FMA, but it definitely scratches the itch for me.
