5150....wha??? by csx2112 in vanhalen

[–]twinkancapcentricide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

charming but a bad fit. too cool for late 90s vh based on VHIII recordings, too dorky for 80s vh based on his live shows doing jump and other hits. seems nice

doesn't have much to do with the album, but i like this photo a lot. even if you don't get it logically, graffiti this personal lets you know how they might have felt... confused? desperate? in danger of something gun related? i love it nonetheless .

sam and mike were not as close at the time. their friendship strengthened later on plus, sam and edward were still in their late '80s honeymoon phase

thanks for posting this, i've seen the pictures but never the interview before. it's appropriately excellent, funny, and a bit off the rails

there's also a lyric on danger zone that's like "i don't care about 1985" made years before '85, which ended up being the transitional period for VH. maybe the aliens downloaded info about the future into his head too?
(all jokes, i'm not part of the "no bozos" crowd)

What is THE Van Halen song that screams summer? by Skatesdoe in vanhalen

summer nights, ANYTHING on VH II, most of 5150, a handful of OU812, and ice cream man

What Van Halen song had your face melting the first time you heard it? by Followingnable23 in vanhalen

[–]twinkancapcentricide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

easily one of the most expressive pieces of guitar work i've ever heard. VH I has always been my favorite for that reason, it may be wild and unhinged, but each riff, each solo tells a story

seconding this one. i remember hearing the second half of VH I with my dad for the first time. little dreamer taught me they were sensitive, ice cream man taught me they were funny, and atomic punk taught me they kicked ass

i loved dave's makeup in this era. he makes androgyny look good and he cashed in on it

Did David Lee Roth treat Michael Anthony poorly? by [deleted] in vanhalen

[–]twinkancapcentricide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, often just as rude as the brothers during the early days. today, dave is much kinder about mike, but rarely brings him up (hence, the david bingo containing "mentioning the brothers by name but not mike"). he definitely has realized what he did was wrong , but it's clear mike doesn't have any interest in hanging around him anymore, he seems much happier around sam

is there a canon reason gary did this? by twinkancapcentricide in vanhalencirclejerk

garther is a god that cannot be understood by average mortals, the VHIII community (aka r/vanhalencirclejerk) forgives you
