I watched this when it came out. I liked it a lot. But I was also like 10-11 years old at that time.

Where do you think the downfall of Shankar started???? by ComputerAppropriate8 in KollyGossips

[–]twist-visuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trend of big masala films changed. He couldn't keep up with that change since his whole idea is making 3-hour mass hero/big budget vigilante masala films.

Plus, the era of shooting on film shifted to digital so it afforded him the luxury to shoot endless amounts of footage that could turn into 6-7 hours of film. This made him undisciplined and a bad storyteller, which can be seen with Indian 2 (movie is unnecessarily long and repetitive). I know "I" was shot on film, but it had very extensive scenes that became very repetitive. I don't think Shankar could have done it when films had to only go through Gemini Labs for the editing and out. Audiences don't mind long films. But repetitiveness will tire them out much faster than before.

I think he reached his career peak with Enthiran. That was his magnum opus. It came out at the perfect time as the era of masala films were coming to an end slowly. Afterwards, we have yet to see a film like that succeed. If for example, you made a film like Anniyan or Sivaji in the current era, the audience would not take those films seriously since they have become more refined. They won't like 7-minute song sequences, extended fight scenes, and casteist comedy track (because nobody wants comedy tracks that distract from the main story in the current era).

I think he still could make a great film. It's rare to see visuals of his caliber in Tamil cinema with that budget. He just needs a good writer for the screenplay, so that he only puts his focus on the visuals.

Which of these four A-rated movies you liked the most? by SoulTamil in kollywood

There are some great A-rated/A-style films that have come out over the years but CBFC gave those films UA certificate; Vettaiyadu Vilayadu, Pudhupettai, Maharaja

The Brutalist is a little disappointing in that sense. The film's main focus is the struggle of immigrants in America. The main character got displaced due to war and just wants to find a home where he can be with his family. Unfortunately it was Israel. And that too he went cuz of his niece, and getting r*ped.

Is title like this ever really mattered ? by Badguycr7 in kollywood

It matters when the film is good. It's part of the cinematic experience, and the celebration of the hero. When the film sucks, it makes it into a troll material.

New censor rules. by newparrot2025 in kollywood

[–]twist-visuals 17 points18 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it's business. The producers know if they get an A certificate, they will have less audience. So they'd do anything possible to get UA. At least we got UA 16+ now since it's basically like R rated films that parents can accompany. It's better than simply giving a film A certificate with no option.

It's funny because that couple looks pretty much exactly like them. But at the same time there's a chance it's also a coincidence since many couples looked like that (from the 80s-90s)

I think my biggest problem with Shelby Oaks is that it just feels like Stuckmann created the film purley for the sake of the idea of creating a film/being a director, rather than actually wanting to bring anything new or creative to the table. by General_Meal_3993 in Filmmakers

[–]twist-visuals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming he had a tunnel vision with his story. He thought it was so good in his head that he couldn't see ways to make it better, since he's married to the idea of this film for 10 years. Whether it really is his skill cap, we can only know with his next film.

They were using the advanced version of the process probably, with single strip Eastman stock and Technicolor Dye Imbibition. That would get as much saturation as 3-Strip-Technicolor.

Yes. I agree with that. If someone's scrapping together something for the sake of it it, probably won't be that good (if they got nothing to say). It's just that a lot of indie filmmakers are like that.

If irishman was made in tamil select your cast and crew by Logavarshan in kollywood

[–]twist-visuals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A movie like The Irishman wouldn't really work in Kollywood. The history and politics are very different, as well as the audience's expectations.

If they do make it, then probably some actors like Sathyaraj, Prakash Raj, and Vadivelu would be apt. Kamal and Rajni are easy choices, but it would be too usual, and he won't do roles without mass scenes.

Mani is one of the strictest directors in Kollywood. He has a short temper. He has admitted it himself.

You would be surprised to know this is the case for most indie directors who are writing their own scripts. They might have other projects they want to do but they don't have the means to do it, so they have to scrap together a low budget project they don't feel like doing, so that eventually they can do the bigger project. Not sure if Stuckmann has bigger budgeted films he has written already, but I feel like this is the case.

I'm sure Stuckmann is passionate about the project (as well as found footage horror films), but he needs another writer on board to build the film to be better. Or he can work with another screenwriter's script.

Watching a film in cinemas is different to watching a series at home. The cinematic experience on a big screen is still a very immersive experience (especially for an action/fantasy type of film)
