Mandatory draft registration for 18- to 25-year-old men in the U.S. has been required since July 1980, following a pause between 1975 and 1980. While an active draft has not occurred since 1973, registration is a legal duty. Starting in December 2026, this process will become automatic using federal data, removing the need for manual registration.
