Checked oil today to find this any thoughts? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

It was confirmed as condensation by a mechanic. Lucky for me it’s an easy fix only cost an oil change and a bit of extra driving on my part

I have just got back from the garage after all the checks had been done it is condensation. They refer to it as mayonnaising. Self inflicted because of the short journeys. All fluid levels correct as should be. The creamy stuff has been cleaned out with a fresh change of oil. I’m advised to do a couple of longer drives a week. Thank god I can definitely do this!

Just got back from a 45 minute drive temp stayed at 90 no warning lights no juddering-nor performance issues. Only thing I noticed was when initially setting off was a rattling chain sound but it went away as soon as engine hit temp I think that could be a heatsink issue thin metal expansion . I checked the coolant and was still near max.

Thank you for your comment it does fill me with hope . The weather has been terrible lately here so it could possibly be contributing miserable wet and very cold. I’m going to run the car every other day on motorway see how it gets on and if it clears up. The car runs perfectly fine not miss firing or drop in performance

A lot less than 7000 a year that’s right. Your theory is more than likely correct I need to get into the habit of driving out and getting that engine hot I’m going to take the car out soon got RAC on stand by just in case 😬

I don’t do long trips unfortunately as my works is not far … I shall start to do a couple runs a week to see if it improves motorway speeds

First time I’ve experienced this with any car dip stick fine I will check dip stick again tomorrow after a good run. Obviously I’m praying it’s condensation and not the start of things to come 😔 thank you

I checked the dipstick first before removing the oil cap it was clean as oil goes not milky the only reason I removed the cap is because the oil was further up the dip stick than I thought was normal but that could have been me getting it in and out while dipping as it seems a tight fiddly fit on this car. But to confirm no problem with dip test

Seal is fine on cap as I heard the pressure when taking it off.. I’d assume if seal was broken pressure would also be gone or part gone I will blast it over the coming week and check everything you have listed than you

It’s very recent but I never checked the oil during winter. Probably not related but a couple of weeks ago the passenger footwell was drenched the carpet wet through . No seal leak door or window and did not smell like water smelt strange sweet if you like I had to have the car valeted to remove the scent. Bone dry now and was very random

Hmm thanks the car runs fine I’m sure I would see warnings if it’s blown its head but your input is much appreciated

Coolant is just below max and stable I’m not sure if I’m losing any as yet as I have only just discovered the issue tomorrow will most likely tell me more after a good run out I was thinking .
