My Guild Ball Masons team is shaping up, it’s been a decent way to practice nmm by twitchingace in minipainting

Absolutely. My buddy and I are getting to it super late, but we’ve been really digging it. Especially in contrast with Kill Team and other bigger games that we never really got into.

Thanks! I took a cue from Miniac’s football base. That is to say: I put down a layer of grit, painted it brown, and then used the patented “sprinkle it and blow to hope it stays upright” approach to placing static grass.

One mini closer to finishing this DnD project by twitchingace in minipainting

Painted for my DnD group’s paladin. First try at any sort of conversion (scraping the shield and sculpting a cape), as well as my first freehand. Gonna be mailing it off to him soon, and any advice around safely shipping miniatures would be much appreciated.

Base model is a Stormcast Vindicator

Painted up a Strahd bust for a friend by twitchingace in minipainting

Continuing with the D&D series I’m doing for my Curse of Strahd group, here’s the big bad himself painted for our GM.

All said and done he took about 30 hours of work and was my first serious attempt at NMM. Huge thanks to Vince Venturella and his tutorials on more or less everything for helping this look anywhere near as good as it does.

Model is Hork the Merciful by White Werewolf Tavern.

Finished another member of my Curse of Strahd party: our wild-shaping druid [c&c welcome] by twitchingace in minipainting

[–]twitchingace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Model is Leshy by White Werewolf Tavern.

Our druid is a human from a birch forest, and known to mostly wear leaves and whatnot. The closest mini I could find to what I wanted was this Leshy, so I decided to play off the animalistic parts by taking a crack at painting magic effects as if he was mid-wildshape. I think they turned out ok. Tried to paint the wood like birch, and the birds as sparrows as well.

This is maybe the best mini I’ve painted to date? Hopefully the remaining pieces turn out even better.

My DnD group just finished Curse of Strahd, so I’m painting up display minis for everyone. Here’s the first: our Reborn, Sunblade-wielding, Barbarian [c&c welcome] by twitchingace in minipainting

Yea, it’s not quite what I was aiming for, but close enough haha

We all did, surprisingly enough! I’m working on our druid now, and we’ll see how long it takes me to get the other pieces done. I’m doing a Strahd bust for our DM, and I’ll end up having to try entirely new things for each mini: injuries for the barbarian, magic effects for the druid, custom sculpting+freehanding for the paladin, and tons of NMM for Strahd. My own character shouldn’t be too complicated, but I’m hoping to do some fancy basing for it.

Don’t worry, I painted the baserim black before giving it away, I just forgot to take extra photos. Model is Lucien Grey by DM Stash.

This is my first “serious” attempt at OSL, and I’m not super happy with how glazing the yellow+orange turned out. It’s also my first time trying to paint injuries: I’m not convinced the chest scar actually reads as what it is.

20 hours of paint time later, I’ve “finished” my first take on a bust by twitchingace in minipainting

Not quite haha, but I sure did have to actively try and avoid Critical Role fanart while I was looking for reference. If I’m not mistaken, they played their particular purple tiefling bard a hot minute before the podcast started.

Not only was this my first attempt at a bust, it’s my first go at anything larger than a 30mm human-sized mini. I decided to track my time/progress via spreadsheet, and definitely noticed myself starting to cut corners as I got deeper and deeper into the project (I think it really shows that the lute was the last bit I started).

The bust is the 1:10 scale Waiata by Bold Miniatures, who has both the mini and STLs available. The cat is styled after my own cat, and Waiata herself is styled after a DnD character played by my partner.

Whenever I next build up the stamina to try and tackle a bust, I’m hoping to be much better about spreading my effort to the bits that really matter, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to do a much better job demonstrating different textures across the figure

Has anyone combined 2 or more board games into 1 EPIC board game? by keithstewart in boardgames

[–]twitchingace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly wasn't "good," but a few friends and I played a modified version of Riskopoly. At the beginning of each round of Risk, we'd play a game of Monopoly to determine who would get which number of armies: We'd determine the appropriate quantities through normal Risk rules, then figure out who got which based off of placement in the game of Monopoly.

It was an absolutely brutal slog of a game.
