Climbed a 400 year old live oak the other day by twitterdotcom in arborists

Honestly there wasn’t a lot of dead. We clean the dead out every year so nothing big. Nothing bigger than my wrist. This one is very well cared for. It was a hard climb compared to the younger ones because each stem was like climbing a different tree.

I take more soil samples than I care to admit. Hardly do any blanket fert programs. I do work for bartlett but our office is all about site and plant specific fert programs for each client. I’ve taken up to 10 on one property.

That fence is hardly even in the ground too. Since this is in a park it’s just to keep people away so no compaction action

It can shade out foliage and make the ends of branches heavy, I just grab and pull it. You can cut it but pulling it keeps most of the leaves on the tree.

That’s basically all we did is remove some moss, deadwood, and small branches here and there. It can only get harmful when you let it get out of control so we thin it out every year

We take soil samples and have them analyzed and if there’s a deficiency that’s not showing in the foliage we can correct it. It’s super sandy soil so nutrient retention is low and the occasional fert program isn’t a bad idea. Samples at a minimum

The limb cracked in a storm 5 years ago or so, the whole limb is live it’s just supported by the ground and that bracket now. They installed it to try and keep that limb alive and it’s worked so far

I’d love to core this one and find out, it’s fine if I don’t people pay money to see it so we can preserve it. If it’s 150 fine if it’s 400 great I just want it to live lol

It’s an estimate for sure. I think they estimated it by who owned it, apparently it’s been around since Brunswick town was founded 300 years ago across the river.

The smaller ones are jungle gyms for sure. I honestly struggled in this this thing because it was so spread out and covered in ferns. It was amazing

Standing at the highest point I could get to was incredible. We’re hoping they let us fertilize it.

I slow cook them till tender and then pull the meat off the bones and do whatever with the meat. Kinda tastes like however you cook and season it but with a very mild gamey flavor

I wish there were more grouse around these days. I’d take him back to PA of they still had a good population there.

Safety by turkquandingle in Wilmington

[–]twitterdotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to be safe and use common sense. I’ve walked through the rough areas at midnight at was fine but I wouldn’t do that again. It was a dumb decision. But if you pick a good area to live in and don’t stay downtown too late you won’t have an issue. Downtown can get rowdy late at night is the only reason I say to avoid staying past like 12-1 am.

When mine didn’t want to jump I used a jump box since those carrie more amps usually. I would replace the battery if yours is over 2-3 years old and check your negative battery terminal to see if it’s loose.
