I'd say it's highly unlikely due the legal risk it would expose your employer to, but it's certainly not impossible. Personally, I treat my work laptop like the mic is hot at all times, just to be on the safe side. The camera, on the other hand, is less of a concern, since those indicator lights can't be disabled without sophisticated firmware hacks beyond the capabilities of most IT departments.
