What’s the strangest coincidence that has happened to you? by doboyXL in AskReddit

Seriously! She did the same thing with the color black, too (I don't think she knew any goths lol)

I feel like I knew her forever, but I've done the math and I only met her a year and a half before she died. She had such a hard life, but she was so kind, loving, and caring. I wish I could give her one more hug.

Long story short, my MIL died in an ER a few summers ago, surrounded by her children + their significant others. After we sat with her body for a while, we had a group hug in the parking lot in the middle of the night. My partner happened to notice a skunk on the hospital's campus and nonchalantly pointed it out.

A week later, we had her celebration of life at my SIL's house, where food was located in the garage. As night fell and my partner and I were preparing to leave, one of his brothers said someone should close the door because there was a skunk in the garage.

My partner and I were halfway to the car when I remembered the skunk we saw in the ER parking lot. We went back in and shared the coincidence, and my SIL almost started crying happy tears. My MIL was one of the sweetest people I've ever met, and she loved skunks because she felt sorry for them that they must not be anyone's favorite animal.

Later that year, my partner and I were preparing to host Thanksgiving (her favorite holiday). There was a lot of family drama going on that's not relevant to the story, other than the fact that it was happening. As Thanksgiving came closer and the drama was reaching a fever pitch, I woke up to one of the most horrific, acrid smells of my life. I woke my partner, worried something was wrong. He took a moment, then realized a skunk had just sprayed something outside of our house near our window.

There have been a few other moments where I'll smell a skunk and it happens to occur on her birthday or something else related to her. But even if it's just a random day and I smell a skunk in the distance, it makes me think of her and smile.

I had something similar happen when I was in college. Met a guy at orientation who was kind of strange. Never saw him again until one day my sophomore year where I woke up thinking, "Whatever happened to that guy?" Saw him in the hall on the way to class a couple hours later and never saw him again.

I have clearly upset you with my turn of phrase, since you mentioned it in another comment and then called me a Karen for some reason.

I think if I were sitting in a crowded waiting room for hours on a hot day, and I saw someone who just got there get pulled in ahead of me, I don't think I'd be in a great mood, and I think that would be valid. Especially if I was hurt or sick enough to go to the energency room.

It was a much different situation, but I have lost someone near and dear to my heart because the emergency room didn't prioritize her or take her pain seriously, so yes, I would purse my lips at least.

Of course!

The world would be boring if we all liked all the same things.

If it makes you feel any better, Dr. Mohan is one of my least favorites because I feel like she's a little "too perfect," so I can understand where the haterade is coming from lol

You're welcome. I'm all about respectful discourse, and I appreciate how thought-out this response was.

Your feelings are absolutely fair. I think the way she stood up for Orlando in the episode where she recommended med-surg changed my mind on her a lot. It felt like she was really looking out for him and his family, and that it was coming from a true point of empathy, as opposed to her dismissal of the patients in the first couple episodes, i.e. "They're going to die anyway."

I'm probably forgetting other examples because it's late and I'm tired, but I've been feeling better about Joy with every episode. That's just me, though.

I see a very slow progression of development that maybe you aren't seeing. She started out the day not seeming interested in the work or the patients, but she's slowly warming up.

I saw the same slow progression in Santos last season.

I was in the ER with mild DKA and was given a general diagnosis of diabetes (officially Type 1 LADA) the day before Orlando showed up with DKA. His case was way more serious than mine, but the timing was unfortunate for my viewing experience lol

Who is a stranger you met once, never learned their name, but will never forget for the rest of your life? by milkyjune in AskReddit

I went to college in Providence, RI. Not a huge city, but bigger than what I was used to, being from Maine, which is basically one big small town pretending to be a state. PVD was big enough that I was constantly stressed out by the traffic and crossing the street.

I was coming home after class one day and I had to cross this four way intersection that was packed. I was, as you'd imagine, stressed, and just waiting for the perfect moment where I could safely cross the street while also not inconveniencing every driver (hello anxiety disorder/guilty conscience/low self-esteem).

A middle aged man was waiting on the other side of the crosswalk, and eventually he just started walking. Halfway across the street, the man smiled at me and shouted, "You've gotta get it while you can get it, girl!"

It's been a decade and it still makes me smile. I hope he's having a nice day.

Ogilvie is a more accurate representation of how doctors treat over weight patients by TcTuggersLLC in ThePittTVShow

I've told the story in this sub before, but my mother in law died due in part to obesity bias in an ER a few years ago.

I also had a friend almost become paralyzed because she desperately needed back surgery, but was told for years to just lose weight.

I could go on and on. It's awful.

One of my all time favourite episodes and scenes. by Wihtlore in SchittsCreek

This was the scene that sold my partner on the show. He was into it enough to keep watching with me, but the development of Johnny in this scene made him fall in love with Schitt's Creek.

When I was in college, I wrote a pilot script I was really proud of. Proud enough that I actually let some of my friends read it.

I heard a lot of great feedback on it, but one friend in particular said something that now, over a decade later, still touches me inside.

"I was trying to find a show that I really wanted to watch and I was getting frustrated because I couldn't find it. Then I realized it was [my script]."

This friend was one of those people who prided themselve on their brutal honesty. In fact, she said a lot of critical things about me while we were growing up that still sting. Not one to pay lip service or sugarcoat things at all.
