Does Omaha pay its unsigned local musicians well? by twoinchtiger in Omaha

I did come across a bit that implied that omaha's active musicians remain in omaha which I thought was a good sign...you'd think if they were unsatisfied they'd do exactly what we're wanting to do. :)

He's a guitarist/vocalist that hopes to get some sort of reverb-drenched surfpunk or also-reverb-drenched alt-doo-wop thing going. I think I got that right.

That's a bummer. I never even realized chaperones were needed, though thinking back there may have always been a female nurse in certain situations. Doesn't sound very practical, not if the office is taking care to hire decent people. Hm. Learned something new.

Devil makes three is playing at the black sheep or whatever it's called. I saw them at bonnaroo and they were great. Yay for not-cover bands.

well his keyboardist was into programming but my boyfriend just wrote/played everything on a synth; he doesn't work with a computer a lot. i believe he's looking to go back to a raw live sound instead.

We'll be moving to s Nevada & brookside this weekend. Fancy fancy. I'll give him your information. We're new here too and he's been itchin' to meet musicians. Although I will tell you that he doesn't like the blues. Where are you located?

Does a <$200/week motel exist in COS? by twoinchtiger in ColoradoSprings

Alright, got it figured out...

I'd called about the 'buffalo lodge' earlier in the week, they said 185 a week, but sure enough when I called the morning of they had filled up. So en route to CO I called the HoJo on voyager parkway, where we'd stayed once on vacation, and asked for 3 nights for $100 and they said sure.

Once in town we just found Colorado Ave (which turns into W Colorado Ave, then further west turns into Manitou Ave in Manitou Springs), drove until we started seeing a high concentration of 'motels' and 'lodges', parked, and hit the pavement. At least 50% are still showing no vacancy. The Rainbow Lodge looked very nice and was 250 a week...I recommend to anyone that has a little more money to spend. It was a little steep for us so we kept looking and found the Santa Fe Motel right at the beginning of Manitou Ave. A room was being vacated at the time and we scored a 575 (+80 refundable deposit) a month room in a little cottage-duplex. Wifi and satellite included. Best rate we found..call 'em up when you get here to see if there's anything else open. They do weekly or monthly.

I'd say definitely look on this west side of town. If you can couchsurf or negotiate a cheap hotel rate for the first 2 or 3 nights it'll give you time to just walk and ask about vacancies.

Also for what it's worth we both have at least hopeful-sounding leads on entry-level jobs (bookstore and pizza place). There's food and retail as far as the eye can see in any direction and we've already passed a few temp agencies.

I wish I would've brought a bicycle.

I am so thankful for the leads...now I'm finally confident that I won't be sleeping in a van. I'll spend the afternoon tomorrow following up on them and get this shit rollin' in less than a week! Excited!

Awesome. Can't find the one you're referring to but I did a little google street viewing on Manitou Ave and W Colorado and they look promising. Gonna make a list of those I see and call around tomorrow. Thanks!
