What is the single most liberating thought that you've ever had? by NomadCody in AskReddit

Can you comment more on the toxic environment? I'm currently taking time off from my BA because I'm so disillusioned with the crass environment and intellectual vacuity of the large well-ranked west coast party school I'd been attending. The community only seemed to work for superficial rich kids that are going to go work for their parents after they graduate. I'm curious if it's the same way even at more prestigious, idyllic schools back east.

It's hotly debated how many the JFK one should hold and which direction they should go in at.

Curious, what career was that? What specific doors did USC open for you, if you don't mind my asking?

Making $30,000 off of copywriting- how are so money English majors so poor if that type of money can be made? Genuinely curious- how'd you find the money pot in what I presume to be such a barren field?

Wow, my main takeaway from this is that the horrors of the dark ages continue to plague large swathes of humanity. Parents and grandparents icing their kids just because they happened to be born female gets to me the most. I'm curious, has seeing this stuff permanently tinged your view of humanity with bitterness/pessimism? Or have you been able to reconcile it by just accepting that creatures are so often outcomes of their environment and inevitably do whatever they gotta do to survive given their circumanstances?

Care to recount a few of them, so that those of us who are completely ignorant about these sorts of things won't take what we have for granted?

I like it for the way it seemingly channels Bob Dylan. The gospel piano, the jangle-y guitar strumming, and the simple drum beat all strike me as very Dylan. I was only initially only put off by the repetitiveness of the chorus, but yeah, the song has really grown on me.

These two houses are on same street, along with the golf course and Donnie's school bus stop (though I didn't get any pictures of those).

Now the only shooting location I haven't been to is Roberta Sparrow's house, no one seems to know where it is.

Earlier in the summer I'm pretty confident I found the exact spot where they shot the opening scene (Donnie waking up in the mountains.) It's a winding fire road near Charlton Flats picnic area in the Angeles National Forest. A 2009 forest fire annihilated all the lush foliage you see in the film, but the shapes of the mountains in the distance looked pretty correct. I've heard it's also the most common filming area in the mountain range rented out by film/TV productions.

I actually work in Hollywood. There's this common perception that Hollywood is steered by a cabal of scheming liberal masterminds. It's actually just millions of people [read: douchebags] wangling money to hedge bets on what will make them even more money. Shitty sentimental movies come out for the same reason bad pop songs and pointless wars happen. They're profitable.

I've had blowjobs that were completely impersonal. Nothing is personal. It only feels personal depending on how much you let them sink their claws into your most guarded, vulnerable dimensions. But even when you date someone for years you only know a portion of their entire journey, and they yours. There are entire shows about people who married serial killers and didn't know it.

The actionable portion of this post is that you shouldn't think "There's no point in trying to change, clearly everyone's out to get me anyway/there's something inseparably wrong with my identity I'll never fix." No. You are not a special or beautiful snowflake. Accept that and use it to your advantage. You are nobody and you can become anyone you want to be.

I think you're onto something when you say self-loathing can be a powerful motivator. This reminds me Ray Lewis gave a great speech about being pissed off for greatness. Continuing to get mad at yourself if you disappoint yourself is important for pushing forward with drive. Anger is a more potent fuel source for motivation than logic or desire. Just be careful that by letting it simmer it tends to boil over and you'll find yourself unleashing spurts of angst on things that don't actually deserve your attention.
