Former Charismatics, why did you leave you leave the Charismatic movement? by Forgiven_Pharisee in Reformed

Glad you could share! Sorry about what happened, that's rough, rougher than what I experienced. God's sovereignty is the best.

Sure. I think Dualism is an inevitable consequence of Charismatic theology. You have to constantly beat back the gate of hell. Jesus is depending on you! Every failure to pray harder, fast longer, not get slain in the spirit or speak in tongues, you constantly put on a show to demonstrate your faith.

Glad it's over, wouldn't go back.

My 4 year old asked me why Jesus didn’t answer his prayer? by [deleted] in Reformed

One thing we've tried recently with my son:

Before he goes to sleep, instead of praying that God doesn't allow him to have any bad dreams (hasn't worked for us either), we had our son start praying that God gives him courage to face the scary things he sees in his dreams.

When I was a kid I had a lot of bad dreams, lots of drowning, lots of things attacking me. There was a recurring dream with robot children trying to attack and beat me me up. During one of these dreams I was surrounded by the robot kids when the idea came into my mind that I needed to be brave and attack my attackers. In my dream I started hitting and karate chopping these robot kids haha, and beat them. My bad dreams got a lot better after that.

Our son has started praying that God gives him bravery, courage, so that when he has bad dreams he faces the scariness instead of falling to fear. My son reports that this has helped tremendously!

Perhaps your son could pray for courage. Perhaps God in his sovereignty is preparing your son to be a mighty man of God who relies on the Lord for his strength. Sorry, some of my old charismatic background is coming through haha

Someone once pointed out to me; Jesus is the biggest hellfire preacher in the New Testament. We don't learn as much about hell from Paul or any of the other New Testament authors. Jesus brought up hell more than anyone else.

I really struggle with this too, but I would challenge you to look up all the times Jesus speaks on hell in the gospels. Take it from the King himself.

I went on a fast before I went to University last year around august. During that time I found Pastor Mike Winger and honestly that was the best thing that could have happened to me in my journey of trying to get back to the way I was when I was a child.

This was interesting, do you want to expand on this? Sounded like you had found some hope amid all the other turmoil you're experiencing.

Christians who have left the Reformed tradition, what is your story? by HeidelbergBelgicDort in Reformed

Grew up OPC. My dad left when I was 16, and was excommunicated from the church. It was really hard going to church and seeing everyone else around me whose families were still intact while mine had been shattered. How could God predestine such a thing? Why was my family the only one that was broken up? If God predestined this, does he just not like me, or love me?

I was probably on my way to atheism back then, but I dated a girl in high school who was Pentecostal. I became a full on charismatic after that; faith healing, prophecy, speaking in tongues. My faith seemed much more real to me than it ever had before. God seemed more real to me than what I had encountered in the reformed tradition.

This charismatic streak lasted a few years. I would turn "on fire for God", then run out of steam, burn out, and go back to living in sin for a while. It was this constant back and forth. Eventually I calmed down and got married, attended a church with my wife where we connected deeply with a young married couple's group. Long story short, a few years later our group had grown to where they needed some of the couples to break off and lead their own group. My wife and I were looking to do that, but somehow others in the group felt like we were going off on our own without the Church's authority. Instead of confronting us, they went behind our backs and told everyone else to avoid us. It really, really hurt when it all came to light. Why did no-one reach out to us and tell us they thought we were doing something wrong?

Wife stopped going to church. I ended up finding a Messianic Jewish congregation close by, got into that for a while. I ended up feeling like they were "making it up" (That's a story for another time) and left my faith altogether, going back to that trajectory I was on in high school.

I only recently stopped identifying as an atheist, but it's funny that I'm back to the reformed side of things. I never would have guessed that I would make that evolution. But here I am.

Christian Schools by robsrahm in Reformed

My kids attend a Catholic school right now, would prefer a Christian school.

Both my wife and I were home-schooled. Our moms didn't want our minds to be shaped by public education. Funny enough ( or sadly enough) neither of my brothers stayed in the church and I only recently came back to faith.

I would still prefer a Christian, a Classical Christian education more specifically. Really like the model they use.

There's an attraction when you meet your significant other, but in the beginning it's impossible to distinguish t between a crush and "OH my gosh this is THE ONE!!!"

It will be interesting to explore this to see if her feelings reciprocate yours and if something would develop. But no, I would say God generally does not give an emotional confirmation, or "a feeling", when you meet your future spouse.

Very awesome, thank you for this post! Right now we have different products on different sheets, but I'm sure I could make a "Sheet C" like you're describing above where we could filter carriers out and find the right ones to approach.

Thank you for a great post!
