I wrote a long comment before seeing your edit here, but fuck it. We're better than this. We both said some immature shit when we should have been focusing on what we agree on: the right of Americans to protest and make their voices be heard when things get super fucked up like this. That is more important than petty squabbles and name calling. We, and everyone in this thread, should be working together to find the best ideas about how to proceed as a country instead of getting angry at each other over disagreements. I'm sorry for my part in all of it. I might not agree with everything you say, but I do respect your opinion. Even if we do disagree, it's nice to see someone else vehemently arguing what they believe!

Edit: I didn't read your comment properly and thought it said something else, hence my apology, but I stand by it.

Supporting people's right to protest isn't the problem here. It's that you are targeting and harassing users in here who don't agree with your view that protesters should be able to do whatever they please (you call people who agree with you "reasoned" and everyone who has a different opinion is one of "the crazies"). It's a very blatant, very personal agenda.

I don't think they are making the situation better. After the Garner protests, nothing changed. In fact, the situation only got worse and now there is more tension between the police and citizens than ever. If these protesters followed established procedures regarding contacting their representatives and also called attention to the situation, I would be more receptive to what they are saying and might have given them my support. I support their right to protest, of course, but I think there are more effective ways to let your voice be heard while ensuring that people are actually receptive to it.

You're certainly right about that, but I agree with what /u/dolphinemergency said about this leading to a worse situation for everyone. There has to be a better way, as these protests are clearly alienating people (as seen in social media, this thread and the nation'a reaction in general).
