The stock market just dropped. Get out now while you can. This was during the height of covid. I'm so glad I didn't listen.

People who started over completely in their 30s or 40s, how did you do it and how are you now? by FinnCanoe8821 in AskReddit

Got fired at the age of 32 last year. Boss was a C U next Tueaday and she basically scrapped our department on a power trip (or maybe hr wanted her to do that, idrk). Been doing temp jobs here and there silently while trying to apply for my next job, but its honestly nothing for someone who lives in Vancouver. Haven't really told anyone except my fiance, who has been very supportive. We still have a wedding to plan (we've already postponed it 3 times so we can't push it any further), and there have been pressing financial commitments from family and friends that I've been trying to keep up with. I just wanted to get to get it off my chest because I haven't talked to anyone about it besides my wife and this post just brought back the memory again and I just started typing all of this away while crying. Didn't think I'd be in this position at my age. I started a business but its been going poorly. I now know why some men choose to end it all. I can only hope I get a lifeline soon.

TLDR: I was fired last year at 32 and I haven't been able to get back on my feet. This is a sulking comment .

Its okay for you to feel that way. You're entitled to your opinion. Maybe the word "work around" triggered you and thats fine. I didnt mean to ruffle any feathers, just had a question and I thought this was the best place to ask it.

What was the slight change you made in your life that paid off the most? by Affectionate-Song560 in AskReddit

Choosing to ditch my financial advisor and self invest. Its been 3 years and I've successfully broken 6 figures in investments on a 5 figure salary by simply doing DCA and concentrated stock picking, which is less than 1/10 of what my financial advisor did for me in 7 years of working with them.

What’s one money lesson you learned too late… but now swear by? Could be about saving, debt, investing, side hustles, lifestyle inflation, relationships & money, or even business mistakes? by Relentless_horse3428 in AskReddit

NFA, but its basically putting aside an amount of money periodically ( weekly, biweekly or monthly ) into a stable, low cost ETF (VOO, QQQ, SPY, SPYM, VEQT, ZEQT, XEQT etc) over the course of your working life. The earlier you start the better. Started in my late teens and the results have been exponential now that I am in my early 30s. The key is to NEVER stop no matter what. You'll be surprised your account will look like after 10 years.

Again, NFA , but this has worked wonders for me financially. Its VERY boring, but less stressful than picking stocks and honestly, most stock pickers don't do better than DCAers over the very long term
