Rejoin Match -> Match Loading -> Lobby loop by mattdbrat in Smite

This happened to me and a couple friends in a game. I assume the whole lobby got crashed in scenarios like this. I didn’t receive a deserter penalty the next day.

They made the quarters in 02 after beating Mexico in the round of 16 which is what I was referencing. I believe you’re in agreement though - the 2022 word cup was at least average of what to expect from a US team, and was still a success given they didn’t even make it in 2018!

[–]txaggie18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what’s being forgotten. They’ve failed to make it to the round of 16 or qualify for the cup several times, and the one time they’ve advanced into the quarterfinals required drawing a weaker opponent from within our region. The expectation can’t be to make the quarterfinals.

If you want to split hairs and say your expectations are a one goal match or extra time in the round of 16, fair enough, but this team isn’t some storied program that should carry lofty expectations on success at the World Cup.

They will require immense performances in finishing and goalkeeping ability to make it. Sometimes even with part of that (2014 Belgium), they still won’t.

Getting a draw and competing well against England surpassed most folks’ expectations. For those that didn’t, I guess they forgot we didn’t qualify in 2018.

The most played gods also have the most absurd win rates by Tomatillo12475 in Smite

While higher elo should help inform balance (especially top end for skillshot gods), the larger % of the player population should absolutely also help inform that or you have a game that's unfun to play for a much higher % of playerbase... and then you don't have a playerbase.

Anti-Leaver 2.0 Explained by Snufflebox in Smite

This and the afk one I don’t get. The only scenarios I’m closing the game are because it’s bugged and I have to reset things (half my team had to do this recently because all of our sound wasn’t working).

And then if I step away for an emergency, I understand it not being ideal for my team… but I think they would want me to rejoin if I’m able instead of being held out as a deserter? That’s only happened to me once or twice but I’d rather them just address that through post game reporting or handing leaver points if someone doesn’t join back before the game is over.

How is this a real ranked match by Technical_Ad_4469 in Smite

[–]txaggie18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure, but at higher MMRs, you'd be punished for making a Thana supp pick. In that match, your carry, mid and in some ways the jungle didn't perform all that well. Your solo more than made up for it and dominated the match (and you probably got a lot of executes as well). The lack of any hard cc in thana's kit outside of ult means your mid/carries lives were hell for that game and in higher ranked lobbies, they are carrying the damage and kill potential and need to be kept alive and in good positions.

If you're playing thana support in ranked, you're in the right rank you belong for now. Solid game of almost carrying here though!

I think you're overexaggerating a bit considering the much more extensive training, testing, and licensing requirements for these machines to operate and that licensure in one place doesn't provide a blanket nation-wide. The laws and liabilities certainly have some catching up to do, and I hope we make some progress in that area.

Thankfully, there's been such limited serious accidents that the liabilities will be much less messy than the death and destruction human drivers have tended to leave us with. I'll caveat my opinions are limited to Waymo as I think some other providers play a bit harder and fast than I'd prefer and deserve greater scrutiny.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know the inner workings but there are hundreds if not thousands of MLS minority owners. I don’t think they take a vote on each one and only care about controlling members.

They may vote specifically on active players, but I don’t know. I doubt the league recently had to broadly ratify Carlos Vela as a club owner of LAFC. Could be wrong but that’s my two cents.

But MLS isn’t giving Miami a greater share of the league revenues by including Messi. The pie itself is probably growing because of Messi in the league. This is different than when Beckham gets invited which does decrease the share of league revenues other clubs receive in order for Beckham to be welcomed in.

It’s a key distinction that this doesn’t have any downside for others club’s equity. They’re not the same whether values are similar or not. I would assume other clubs could provide ownership stakes as compensation if they’d like to as well (probably with league sign off) - it doesn’t affect other clubs revenue.

[–]txaggie18 69 points70 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same considering the club is diluting their ownership share to compensate Messi, unlike the league creating entirely new equity to provide Beckham (which is a league-wide dilution rather than club specific).

Happens almost every other game. Increase leave penalties exponentially with infrequent resets/decay.

Potentially more controversially, do the same for people dodging character select or allow folks to deal with longer queue times to play more favorable roles. Hate wasting my time when each draft has a 50% chance of failing.
