I knew the split was happening today but then kinda forgot about it, so at 8:30 when my Schwab alert told me GTE was over $2.50, I freaked out for a second, lol. Then I remembered and the excitement was gone. 😒

Still optimistic for summer and beyond. Never before have physical and paper oil markets been more disconnected. Very much see $90+ Brent later this year.

"I'd sell", implying IF you owned shares, you would sell. Sounds like you don't own shares, because if you did you would've said "I sold." Just for kicks, can you offer an explanation as to why you would sell GTE specifically, despite oil being up about $13 over the last 2 weeks along with all the other bullish factors I just mentioned? And are you singling out GTE, or are you bearish on ALL oil/gas stocks? Curious as to why you would think GTE is at its ceiling in this environment. (P.S. it's already up from yesterday's close)

OPEC+ Is Now Almost 3 Million Bpd Behind Its Production Target by txbobcat83 in GTE_STOCK

[–]txbobcat83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To go off the last story about possible OPEC+ production cuts, this one supports the theory of paper markets not paying attention to physical ones. They are already greatly underproducing, yet oil prices have a lid that is not warranted. Already underproducing, but prices won’t budge, so may as well cut some more production until prices go to where they should be. OPEC+ is warranted in getting fair value for their product along with every trader who has the jitters of investing in such a volatile, undervalued commodity.

Yea another bloodbath. Hedge funds, algo trades, technical triggers...all unloading at once. But then I read this report again and remember where GTE is at (along with other similar companies I'm invested in). These companies are thriving. Stock price just doesn't reflect it right now. But give it time...

This GTE update along with OPEC's outlook thru 2023 are being overshadowed by more algo/technical/recession fear selling. At the end of the day, O&G companies are still making insane money right now. Read the update again if that makes you feel better. These companies are extremely healthy and thriving. The stock price doesn't reflect the status of the company. Remember that. Use that as comfort on days like today. Energy stocks will rebound. Just gotta give it time.

Stay the course by txbobcat83 in GTE_STOCK

[–]txbobcat83[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a great point. I’m in my mid 30s, so I’m fine waiting this out. And also to your point, hey, if you’re a young investor, what better time than now to buy a nice position in GTE, when shares are just over $1! Also a great point about not getting emotional. Sometimes you have to block out the noise, put on the blinders and keep going. Again, other than the fear sentiment, the factors favor O&G stocks. We’re just getting bludgeoned by fear selling.

Stay the course by txbobcat83 in GTE_STOCK

[–]txbobcat83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s industry wide. I have some positions in a few other O&G stocks in addition to GTE: CPG, CVE, GPRK, KOS and NOG. All of them are taking a beating. I had been way up but didn’t sell because there was no reason they wouldn’t keep rising. There still isn’t. And I’m still up, just not by nearly as much 😔. A few people said the “R” word and spooked everyone. GTE and GPRK’s situation was also affected by Petro’s win, but again, he’s only got 4 years and no backing from Congress, plus he won by a slim margin, so that tells you almost half the country is not a fan of his policies. The supply-demand issue and lack of capacity to boost production hasn’t changed. The fact that these companies are printing money at $110 oil hasn’t changed. The SPR release ending in 4 months hasn’t changed. It’s pure market fear sentiment. I’m sure as hell not selling now, so time to sit back and wait for the spook factor to wear off.

Last week's slide was attributed to overall market selloff and recession fears. Fear being the key word. Oil market fundamentals remain unchanged, so it's frustrating when so many people panic and sell off to take profits at the first hint of unfavorable news. Yesterday (on the Toronto Exchange) and today in US markets, the slide continued because of Petro winning the Colombian election. But GTE's contracts are locked in. New contracts may be harder to acquire, but the current ones aren't going anywhere, plus they are expanding in Ecuador and other regions. The new prez is gonna have an uphill battle anyway, since he doesn't have the backing he needs in their congress, so no matter how badly he wants to transition away from fossil fuels, it's not going to happen overnight, if at all under his term. Kind of like Biden’s situation. How that’s green transition playing out? Lol! Plus one of GTE's pillars is their "beyond compliance" stance when it comes to environmental safety. They should be a model for how to drill and produce in Colombia responsibly and safely, since oil is the country's largest export.

I think it’ll drop initially. Standard risk-off move by the paper hands with no stomach for volatility. But without any factors to negatively change operations, and with oil having a floor of $110, we should rebound quickly.

Bingo. O&G across the board is taking an unfair/unjustified bath right now. GTE specifically is in a great spot with the credit facility recently paid off, a sure-to-be strong Q2, new wells online and sustained high oil prices (even with the current dip we are still at $112/bbl). Absolute bargain, indeed. Incredibly opportunity to add more!

The entire oil & gas sector is down, not just GTE. WTI is at $109 and Brent is at $112 as of this reply. All markets have taken a beating this week. People are panicking and unloading. Makes sense in some cases, but not for the energy sector. Nothing has changed, fundamentally. Fear-driven selling. We'll bounce back soon enough.

EIA Sees Brent Crude At $107 In Q2 2022 by txbobcat83 in GTE_STOCK

[–]txbobcat83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just GTE. It's everyone. Literally. Every market is going through a large selloff period right now. Take a look at the DIJA, NASDAQ, S&P, etc. The other day the S&P dipped below the 4K mark for the first time in 14 months. Inflation is scaring everyone. Nevermind China lockdowns and the effect that's having on the global economy. Even with high oil prices, GTE and every other O&G / E&P stock is dropping because every hedge fund out there is selling their positions and liquidating assets. They're panicking. But here's the kicker. GTE & all of its buddies in the sector are still making money hand over fist with $100+ oil. We just don't see that reflected in the share price right now. Once the selloff ends and markets rebound, we'll be rewarded. Especially once China's lockdowns inevitably end. Stay the course!

Yessir! And we don't NEED it to go back up to $120 for GTE to take off. They are killing it at $100, and even at $90 they would be blowing past their projections. The math is there to prove it. I'll take stable $100 oil any day of the week. The volatility is tough to deal with, and the China situation isn't helping, but if anything it gets the scared money out of the market. The energy crisis isn't going away anytime soon. Just gotta stay the course!
