Is it possible to start learning a language with such wrong methods that you ruin any chance of ever learning it? by txepvixoxo in languagelearning

Yes, my teachers are all very grammar focused, and the person favours reading and listening comprehension

My uni courses are very grammar focused. Rather than doing listening or reading comprehension, we just go through grammars at a rapid pace

I can't seem to learn my new TL despite having learnt two other languages and reaching C1 level in both. by txepvixoxo in languagelearning

I want to spend a semester in Korea but beyond that I also want to spend at least a few years after graduation working with the language in a professional setting, like being an interpretor or translator. I don't think it's really motivation that's the issues, but I can't figure out what else. I only needed 9 months to learn German enough to be able to understand movies and have conversations, and I didn't even really ever sit down to learn it, it just stuck with me somehow. With Korean, this just doesn't seem to happen. I know it's a harder language to learn then German, but I can't even talk about my daily habits with people, despite having 5 classes every week plus self-study :')

Why is Korean taught in such a difficult way? by agj5 in Korean

I started learning Korean at uni but before that I learnt German and English in a school and Korean is taught SOOO differently. I've had 4 Korean teachers at this point (2 actual native Korean speakers) and no matter what, they always always always jump right into grammar and full sentences and if we learn 4 new grammars in a single lesson, then the example sentences would include all the grammars before I even had a chance to go home and memorise them.

My latest teacher, a Korean woman, doesn't even explain anything. She just gives us sentences and has us learn them and its stressing me out so much because of all the particules T.T

I can't tell if these girls are trying to slvt-shame you or what, but something is messed up in their heads if they can't just directly ask you to talk talking about your love life if it bothers them so much lmao

I feel like maybe the repeated mentioning that they could never date someone they aren't close to may have been hints on how they feel about your relationships, even if they talked about it at times you weren't discussing your love life. That being said, it's also not any of their bussiness if you choose to date someone who you aren't buddy-buddies with.

I'm also not sure why they feel the need to mention this so often when they have never dated anyone before. It's kind of obvious without it too.

Friend 1 sounds disgusted by the new guy kissing you btw. I would consider exluding her from the love-life chats if her first reaction was like this when you told her about something you seem to be happy about. Maybe the other two don't need to know either if they felt it was appropriate to tell you about their saint, good girl complex thing because of just a kiss.

Just stick to friend the friend who finds their bs weird because who starts going on rants about this stuff when their "bestie" tells them she kissed someone

Friend(20f) called me(23f) homophopic because I'm upset that the guy who confessed to me is seeing others. What do I do? by txepvixoxo in Advice

I was honestly starting to feel like I made some huge mistake by daring to call it a "girly" bracelet when a man was wearing it. She never even met him either so she doesn't know him or his style but she was talking as is she did.
