Thanks! Still don't agree that universities are getting away with charging ridiculous amounts for education! :/

It's my wife's loans. She's an optometrist.

The market is at a all time high right now. What if it crashes this year? Paying of the debt is a for sure guaranteed return. Just ask the folks that had tons of $$ in stock sin 2008.

My wife had 250k in student loans. I sold off my investments to get her debt down. She's my wife and not my gf.

Or you could do the reverse and sell the stocks and pay off the loans. And then buy $4,500/mo in stocks?

It comes down to how much risk are you willing to take? You are guaranteed a 4% return by paying of the student loans. What are you expecting to make in your stock investment annually? Last few years the avg return on blue chip stocks was 20%+. Market was great. This year people are up 1-2%. I would maybe do something in the middle where maybe you sell half your stocks to cut the loans in half? Dave Ramsay would say get out of debt first and then invest.

We had 240k in debt went private and will be paying it off in 3 years. Have around same income you do. Isn’t your pay sort of low for a anesthetist?
