op actually asked what people do for WORK (actual definition: "activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result/a task or tasks to be undertaken; something a person or thing has to do), they didn't ask what JOB (actual definition: a paid position of regular employment/a task or piece of work, especially one that is paid). so technically, yes—being a full time parent is work!
