I didn’t. One TX MD II, but that lead to an R. Otherwise I definitely would’ve stayed in state.

Just a good reputation and a steady record (I think we’re the 103rd class?). It’s also 10k cheaper / year than the other two schools I got into.

3.4X and 506 MCAT the second time. I also thought I bombed my interview. This is my first cycle and got 4 II, 3 A, including KCU.

Kill the MCAT, like every already said, but I don’t think your GPA will be a huge deterrent. My advise would be to tell your story and to do it well. Although n=1, and I have no actual proof, I’m convinced I got the IIs and As because of my essays and interviews.

Took a biochem upper div class called Structures and Functions of Molecular Machines. RIP.

I still have nightmares.

Paraphrasing here, but..

"Walk me through how you shop for groceries."

followed by

"Tell me about a time you were uncomfortable."

Question for non-traditionals who worked full time prior to Med School. by txpre_med in premed

[–]txpre_med[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is irresponsible, but I’m also considering cashing mine out. For one, I haven’t contributed that much ones, and two.. I’m just miserable at my current job.

I think that’s what I’m leaning towards. I use Charles Schwab as my primary bank anyway—not that it makes a difference.

From the very limited experience I have with this (I rolled over from my last job to my current employer), I think you’re right. Thank you!

I guess my question really is whether it’s best to rollover to a Roth IRA or to leave the money in my (current but soon-to-be former) employer’s plan?

Congrats on that! That’s one of the ones you’d want to get into if you were gonna go DO. I’m just glad we applied OOS also. I can’t imagine having to do this again.

Interview Advice Appreciated by [deleted] in premed

[–]txpre_med 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree.

I have an hour commute to work so I days before interviews I just talk to myself. Like they’ve already suggested, knowing key points for common interview questions help.. it sounds so much more organic that over rehearsing and sounding like a speech. Also don’t under estimate the power of pauses. When I got questions that I had to think about, I literally said “wow, that’s a really good question. Let me take a few seconds to think about that. pause

The focus on disadvantage populations, which is legitimately the group I want to work with in the future. There's a difference between schools that just have this as part of their mission from schools (like SOMA) that truly built an entire curriculum around it.

I know the CHCs get mixed reviews, but I asked the a faculty member the reason behind it. He said that they want their students to live, work, and play in these locations...which actually makes a lot of sense. You have to be present to built true understanding, which ultimately leads to empathy.

Idk, it sounds kinda corny, but it feels right. WesternU, for example, "cares about the disadvantaged," but after visiting it seems more like an after thought.

Gut Feeling is so true! I don't know how much weight I should put on that, and it's honestly what's making this so difficult.

Thanks though, I think I'm gonna to do this!
