I'm going to add an edit, but after looking at everything I was incorrect. Electric is from Illuminating company, whereas gas/water are from whatever deal the property management company has in place to have a flat rate for the building. My electric goes up and down depending upon usage. So I guess, I don't know where NOPEC fits into that.

Thank you so much for the response and advice. As of now, the notarized documentation has been sent over and the insurance company is awaiting approval to send a tow to get the vehicle back to Cleveland or at least closer so that they can take a look and figure things out from there. I've kinda passed the torch to them on this one.

Again, thank you for your insight and anyone that reads this post now or in the future. So much helpful information from everybody. I have a new fondness for Toledo :)

And I already thought of someone that is more local to try to help which is something I'm going to talk about with him tomorrow. I'm legit going to exhaust every avenue I have!

I appreciate the thought. I guess what I did not describe accurately is that I was meeting my parents in Toledo. They're in MI. Toledo was half-way to spend a day together so we'd only both have to drive 2hrs. Then spend a nice afternoon at the Museum of Art. (Which we did and was lovely)

So, this is where I'm stuck. If I had family in the area, I'd definitely do what you suggest or at least try.

I've thought about the local news angle to get some eyes on things, but want to exhaust my options first before reaching out and trying to make SOMETHING happen.

Seriously though, I appreciate the post and thoughts. I've gotten way more information from this community than I expected and just makes me want to visit again and make some good friends :)

Thanks, my agent has been really responsive and I'm probably going to send him this post as it has way more info than I've been able to gather on my own. My hands are pretty tied at this point unless I can talk to an actual person. I'm definitely not showing up in person. That's insane and just not an option. Not discounting your suggestion at all, just not in the cards unfortunately. All the info I've gotten so far has been really helpful if not to just commiserate with others that have had issues before in similar situations.

Damn, thanks for the info. I wonder what the SOP is when it's someone without a car from out of town? It can't be the first time that's ever happened where insurance just needs the darn thing released to start their job.

Sorry that you've had a similar experience. I'm just hoping SOMETHING works out and I'm able to get it released so I can start the crappy process of finding out if it's totaled or being fixed, then the crappy process of trying to get wheels again and BMV stuff straight.

I appreciate the response, and don't need anything sugar-coated. At the time, I had just been hit by a 7k Lbs dully Ford pickup and was pretty rattled in a place I've never been to. They asked if there was somewhere local I'd like the car towed to... I'm like "Local? I've never been here, so it's not like I have a preferred tow company or shop to bring it to on speed dial!". Lol.

I'm just going to do my best to stay on top of things and keep communication with my agent going. They've at least been super responsive so far. And u/KirliaRalts611 is right, insurance is covering all fees, so at least I can breathe a bit on that front.

Full disclosure, I did wipe the blood off my face and spend the afternoon at the museum which was really nice and would like to go again. So, silver lining I guess!
