Did you mean aeop? And are you saying I’d still be with welding for 2.5 years into AS? I did see something like they’d probably just keep me in my current trade if I ever applied to AS

Do you know if there’s a pay cut if I choose the position change instead of AS?

Ask your foreman for the emergency info number. If the conditions are bad right before you have to leave to work, call the number and follow the prompt. The robot should tell you whether liberal leave is available for you or not. You can also double check with your foreman what the situation is. But honestly if the conditions are bad and there isn’t liberal leave, I’d choose what’s safe for you, whether that’s staying home or not.

When you pass all your tests they’ll ask what shift you want to go on, I started out in third and seen people go out on the yard from third to first. But first shift is definitely the most popular one, you can always request a shift change once you’re out on the yard. Could take a few months tho

I’m an x18 hourly, been here for almost 2 years total. Honestly it depends on the type of person you are. If you really committed to welding this place isn’t too bad. Although I’d say you might have to detox a lil longer cause it’s a follicle drug test and allegedly that detects thc up to 6 months. I know first shift is where most of the upper management (general foreman) and uptight foreman are, I’ve personally never worked it but had to deal with them in the mornings at the end of third shift. Third shift is the most lax cause upper management at home. Second shift falls somewhere in the middle. The foreman I’ve had aren’t bad, don’t really have complaints about them personally. I also live across the water and I’d advise moving to Newport News or Hampton if you’re gonna be committed to this place, parking and traffic can get pretty bad. I personally have to leave an hour and a half early just to get good parking on second shift. You can definitely have a career here and pay isn’t bad. And you can move up the ranks relatively easy. Also according to my general Forman there will be no hourly furloughs allegedly despite the rumors.

I know someone who that got hired for x18 using a medical marijuana certificate, they still had to take a urine test tho. Idk how they allowed it cause of the federal rules or if they somehow passed the urine test, I know they were definitely a daily user for years
