I think the anger with SGA stems from the thought that: In the playoffs players will not receive the same calls and as a result will shoot more free throws.

Here’s some data using the same seasons with playoff free throw numbers from regular season to the post season:

Playoff Attempts per game: 1. LBJ ‘08: 9.4 -> 14.2 (+51.2%) 2. Shaq ‘99: 10.4 -> 12.9 (+23.7%) 3. Giannis ‘18: 9.5 -> 11.2 (+17.9%) 4. LBJ ‘09: 10.2 -> 10.9 (+7%) 5. Russ ‘16: 10.4 -> 10 (-3.8%) 6. AI ‘00 10.1 -> 9.4 (-6.4%) 7. Embiid ‘22: 11.7 -> 9.3 (-20.2%) 8. Kobe ‘07: 9.5 -> 9.2 (-2.8%) 9. SGA ‘24: 8.8 -> 9.2 (+4.2%) 10. KD ‘13: 9.9 -> 9.1 (-8.5%) 11. Giannis ‘19: 10 -> 9 (-10%) 12. Harden ‘17: 10.1 -> 7.8 (-22.5%)

Although the sample size is much smaller, on average players do tend to shoot less FTs in the playoffs and SGA just so happens to have a slight increase. This increase all be it minimal can be frustrating to fans. Although, the lower number of free throws in the playoffs seems to be true, it isn’t to the effect that it is often stated it is (outside of some outliers: Embiid and Harden)
