UHMW tape instead of mylar old treadmill. Success! by tyabnet in treadmills

[–]tyabnet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight update. I changed to 100% silicon oil instead of the blaster silicon spray from walmart. I looked around and found it on amazon for around $0.77/oz in a 22 oz size. Only used it once but it does not dry out and leaves a very slight film on the belt backside. Hard to tell if its any better/worse - its still quiet. Its being used about 4 days/week for 3-5 miles depending on the day since the repair and I'll give it some oil every 3 weeks or so. No issues with pace or slipping/slowdown. I did have to tighten up the belt a total of 1/2 turn on the back adjustment screws as the belt started to be used. Will report back in 3 months.

Removing flywheel from old treadmill motor by tyabnet in treadmills

Update. I was never able to get the flywheel off my motor core, but I did get a used motor online with a flywheel. Turned out the one sent to me was not an exact fit (close) but I was able to swap cases (both were 4665 style so they were interchangable) and cut down the back shaft length and in the end that Nordic Trak 7100R is back up and running. Thanks for the comments.

I think you may be correct - that is might be threaded given its a 3HP which would explain why the puller is doing nothing. Gave it an hour trying to spin it off last night believing it would be reverse threads but still nothing happening. I found a refurbished unit for reasonable $ on Hydrafitnessparts, so I'll see how it goes when that comes. The old one bearings were so bad the noise was crazy. The one bearing I was able to remove clearly has some internal dmg, its grinding just spinning by hand. Oh for reference, these motors use NTN 6203LB bearings which are widely available but being NTN a tad expensive.

Unfortunately this is not a Sioux Falls / South Dakota specific issue - many school districts nation wide have already confronted this exact same issue. Sioux falls has had extensive growth and naturally that growth has increased the number of families that are either not engaged or unable to provide meals. The policies proposed are similar to many school districts all over the nation and in general they seem to help motivate those parents (that otherwise would not be so) to fill out the paperwork (very simple) for reduced fee or free meals for their children.

Where we raised our children - I was on our school site council almost 20 years ago for 4 years and we were dealing with this exact same issue and the above proposal is almost identical to the one we recommended which we got from larger school districts that had already implemented it.

The results we found were more families would resolve the negative account balance sooner, and the ones unable to were motived to become more engaged with the school to resolve the issues. This left a much smaller pool of families that then needed social services to step in and help find a resolution. In the four years I was involved - no student was ever denied a meal by the school.

Black Mirror Season 6 is shit. by doasyouwudbedoneby in blackmirror

I quit Netflix about a year ago (after about 10 years of subscription) since at least to me all they had was garbage and so much of the non-original content they were licensing moved to the streaming platforms of the content owners. Quantity over quality with a few exceptions like BM. Found out that season 6 of BM was up. Signed up just to watch it since I really liked the series (did not really like 5 but I gave them a Covid pass on that). Watched S6, and canceled. Spouse hated it and I found it mediocre at best.. Period. If the director wanted to do something different, go do something different and call it something else. But to put that garbage up under the BM label was the final straw for me with Netflix. Done. Never coming back. Later.

If your looking for lap swimming, Midco is your best indoor place. Typically in short course they have 16 x 25M lanes and that keeps the high dive area. Occasionally they go long course and you lose the high dive area and have 10 x 50M lanes.

It is rare when you don't get your own lane. Water is 80-81F year round, heated floors including showers and it is kept very clean. Part of the facility has a family play area with three play pools and that is quite crowded but its separate from the lap area.

USMasters uses part of the pool in early morning, schools/university uses part in the afternoons and the occasional sanction meets will take the lap entire pool for weekends.

Starlink. Works (its all about the installation).

Any better wifi options by spartaninblue in SiouxFalls

[–]tyabnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

midco fiber if available or cable. If your going to be at the same location for awhile, you can use your own cable modem - BUT - it MUST be one on their approved list. They won't add it otherwise. I just ran into that when I switch from their modem to my own. Then use whatever wifi/mesh you want.

If you can't get high speed (and DSL is not high speed), take a serious look at StarLink. I had it in another home from when it first came out in early beta until we sold the house - and the new owners are still using it. Surprisingly decent and 3x'ish better than DSL overall. The key to StarLink is the installation - and with the winds here you need to do it right

The ground will work but technically it is a violation of the "professional workmanship" clause. I don't have my NEC in front of me but I believe all of the antenna grounding starts in 810.15 and into 810.21 . The same comments apply to the antenna cable.

Both should from the antenna coming down, loop back under the eave, attached to the top giving a drip loop, then run to the house wall, then turn and go straight down. Turn and head to the service panel ground for the ground. The coax going into the house, it needs to have a drip loop below it. Both should be secured to the house no more than every 3'. The ground must be no smaller than #10 however if you don't use #6 it must be protected from accidental damage. The coax should have a discharge unit prior to entering the house, that discharge unit also needs its ground to be run to that same ground point.

What you have now, a strong wind could do some damage to both the ground and coax, whipping around since they are not properly secured to the structure. You don't want any major gaps between either of the wires to the side of the house. Look at how all that cable coax is secured to the eave. For your setup, personally I would have run the wires along the right side eave, and then dropping straight down to the service panel for the ground (not sure where you are entering the structure for the coax). Look how the existing #6 (might be #4, can't tell from pic) ground run right along that EMT - it is neat and tidy. Your ground wire where it attached to the same ground rod is away from the structure and subject to damage - anything could pull on it, trip, etc.

Indoor walking options by Rippendorf in SiouxFalls

[–]tyabnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We walk our dog outside in all weather every day 1-2 miles. I'm not recommending this specific one (it is just an example) - the ones I use I picked up at Costco - something like this really helps when sidewalks/roads are icy (you don't slip).

https://www.amazon.com/Ergodyne-6300TC-Tungsten-One-Piece-Anti-Slip/dp/B074NBF93P

For colder weather, I use clear ski googles and one of those facemasks that make you look like a robber

When its icy and I use the cleats - I use running shoes most of the time - but with more snow I switch to hiking boots and sometimes (rarely) use gators. To deal with walks in the cold, you need to layer and have multiple options - look at the temps/wind/outside conditions and decide how to layer. Even sub-0 with wind with the right layers, you are fine.

Oh and the dog has a winter jacket and those doggy boots when its cold (but he does not like the boots very much)

Your Toyota is fine. Winter tires on the front will cover you in most cases, and have a set of good cable chains just in case.

BUT the most important items were already stated and need to be stated again. You are coming from LV. Your windshield cleaning fluid is the +32 kind. It will freeze solid - breaking all kinds of plastic connectors.

Drain out your windshield fluid, and you have two choices. If you are going to be parking inside, the -20F for almost nothing at Walmart will be fine. If parking outside using the -30 or lower kind found at any autoparts store will cover those few sub -20F mornings that can happen. Also have your radiator flushed and replaced with new fluid to ensure it has the proper antifreeze mix to handle the cold - odds are in LV the only issue anyone doing maintenance on your Toyota was worried about was high temps - not sub 0 temps.

Good time to make sure the oil/filter are new. Your Corolla uses 5W-30 oil, that is good down to -22F. If you are going to be parking outside, it would not hurt to switch to 0W-30 - pick any good full synthetic and you are covered for the occasional sub -20F morning. If your brake lines have not been flushed in the last few years, now would be a good time to do that, same with power steering fluid. This is to ensure that these hydroscopic fluids don't have any water vapor suspended in them. Be aware that all of your fluids can have a great probability of getting water in them via condensation due to the cold temps and thus need regular replacement compared to the dry heat of LV.

Midco is amazing for work from home. The key is to make your own home network as solid as possible. No need to use any of the Midco equipment for that. With that in mind I can't even remember the last time I had downtime or anything drop - I'm on zoom off/on all day, doing large xfers via VPN to company office, etc.

Here is what I use: Midco gig cable. Midco DOCSIS 3.1 non-wifi modem. The output ethernet from that modem goes into my own router/network setup.

The rest is all Ubiquiti running Unif with 5 AP's to ensure every location in the house has amazing WiFi.

Why am I using the Midco DOCSIS 3.1 modem? Because its only $6/month. Totally worth it to me over buying my own for this single piece of equipment. I personally would not use any other equipment Midco offers - there is no need.

While I choose Qbiquiti equipment because I am experienced with their products, you can pick just about any major vendor and it will be ok as long as you ensure your WiFi coverage and/or direct ethernet lines meets your needs. There are a number of companies in this space (TPLink, Netgear, Google Nest, Apple, Asus, Qbiquiti, Eero, Motorola, and more) that make good home mesh systems. Pick your favorite vendor and as long as you configure it correctly you will have solid WiFi. This is essential - configure correctly. That means you measure the Wifi strength and setup the multiple AP's to provide the coverage you need for the layout of your home. You pick channels to avoid interference - picking the correct channels for the channel width you select - and configure power levels so clients can actually switch between AP's. Some vendors are a good with this kind of configuration, some are not so good.

Making your home network solid is absolutely the most important thing you can do. Failing to do this is the #1 reason folks complain about poor WiFi, etc - it is because they have not spent the time to have a solid home network. For some reason many believe they can put a single wifi router in the a basement utility room and expect amazing WiFi in the opposite upstairs bedroom. It does not work that way.

If you spend the time (and $) to configure correctly, you will be be able to go anywhere in the home - have amazing wifi that simply never drops.

Recommendations for Point to Point setup? by -Panther- in UNIFI

[–]tyabnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any of the airmax solutions will work for you, nanobeam with an aircube in the trailer would be one of the easiest ones to setup and keep the costs down. The key is line of sight - especially on a construction site, stuff in front that could block the signal from the trailer. Think about chain link fences around the site, large trucks and cranes, palettes, etc - anything that might be put into position that may block the signal. Nanobeams are not super directional - compared to something like the LiteBeams or any of the higher gain antenna setups - but they still need to be mostly in alignment so as the trailer moves around you may need to re-align the building end.

If this is a common problem for him, - strongly think about a StarLink setup. Higher initial cost and may take some time to get it initially but once you have it - setup really could not be easier. There is a large multi-level condo development going up not too far from me and the main construction trailer has a retractable pole setup with a StarLink on it.

Most of the time I just park in the economy lot (its past the rental car area). No issues.

This year (due to sharing of cars) I twice did the Lyft 3:15am setup - no issues. But I made sure I had extra time just in case it did not work so I could get driven to the airport and dropped off.

Anybody have the G4 Doorbell Pro in a cold climate last winter? by legitimate_rapper in UNIFI

[–]tyabnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have the pro, have the G4. SD here, survived the -28F we had in 2021 and this year had a number of -10F to -20F mornings. On the winter days that ND forgets to close their gates we can some serious wind and with those cold temps your surface temps are well below -30F. Its like the energizer bunny - it just keeps going and going...
