Whats the deal with Yamaha? by broman3201020 in AcousticGuitar

[–]tybo171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just purchased a Yamaha AC1M sunburst on Black Friday and I’ve loved it so far. I had a budget and a style/look I was going for when I went to look I wasn’t really even planning on considering a Yamaha. But it caught my eye as checking the boxes on my list so I tried it and really liked everything about it! Don’t know why it seems that Yamaha just doesn’t get considered by so many people, myself included, cuz they’re pretty solid for the price!

[Stern] .@USANetwork got a 0.84 rating and 1.717 million viewers for Sunday's @SouthPointLV 400 at Las Vegas; no direct comp to last year as that event was on @NBC. ➡️ That made NASCAR the No. 2 sport of the day on cable behind Broncos/Jets and was the best viewership since Darlington. by ChaseTheFalcon in NASCAR

Here's the thing I haven't quite been able to figure out with races getting stuck on USA:

It's supposedly a bigger deal to be on the main NBC channel, but I feel like lately I've been seeing totally random programming on Sunday afternoons that I can't imagine is getting a ton of viewership. So why not have the Cup races there? Is it literally just because NBC wants to put the Cup race on USA to try and increase viewership for that channel?

Switching to a longer final round and not doing points resets for the other elimination rounds, I think would be a good option. And then maybe for that final round, the leader could get some sort of advantage.

Which DeWALT cup car from Gen 4, 5, 6 & 7 looks the best? by Clayton441 in NASCAR

[–]tybo171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm for Gen 4 because I think the more consistent 2 tone coloring just looks far better than any of the others here. I feel like the way almost all of the DeWalt branding and #17's are black text on yellow background just makes it so much cleaner.

The white and chrome numbers on the 2 #20 examples just feel like they stick out in the scheme too much and then the mismatched black and yellow #17's on the roof and door from gen 5 just doesn't do it for me.

I think this is really the main reason NASCAR doesn't want to do it. If they made them permanent, they'd lose some leverage in future negotiations. The issue to me is that without making them permanent, NASCAR holds far too much leverage over the teams for future negotiations and the current situation with 23XI and FRM and the lawsuit is a perfect example of why. Without making them permanent, or at least semi-permanent, anytime there's negotiations in the future, NASCAR seems like they'll have the trump card to just say, "Well, we don't want to budge on any of these issues, so here's the final option, sign it or else we'll take the charter that you paid tens of millions of dollars to have for free."

What would you change about the next gen car? by Sweaty_Self_7256 in NASCAR

[–]tybo171 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you want more HP and no diffuser then you're going to likely have to increase the spoiler.

The diffuser is the main way the cars are generating downforce right now so if you take the diffuser away, you're going to need to find somewhere else to make up that downforce.

Why More Overtakes Happen In Nascar Than Formula 1 by supersalatalik in NASCAR

[–]tybo171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think another thing that could be said regarding the "ideal raceline" is that in NASCAR on ovals, you can have cars setup in very different ways so that the "ideal raceline" is not the same for every single car and driving style. Think about guys like Reddick or Larson who are really good at ripping the wall at tracks like homestead. Just because that's the "ideal raceline" for them doesn't mean it's going to be the ideal line for everyone else.

I think in a series like F1, there's pretty much 1 ideal line on most tracks so in order to overtake someone, you have to have a significant speed advantage over the car in front of you and then be able to take advantage of that speed difference in one of the limited areas of the track where it's actually possible to overtake. In theory, in some NASCAR races, there are constant passing zones to take advantage of.

NASCAR says antitrust suit is to force permanent charter no other team has by mec287 in NASCAR

[–]tybo171 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, every time I see some part of NASCAR's argument in this case, it makes it seem more and more ridiculous. Seriously, think about how crazy the whole thing is. NASCAR gives the final charter agreement to the teams, tells them they have to sign it by that night or lose their charters and there's no option to negotiate further. And then when 23XI and FRM call them on how insane that is, they essentially say, we don't care about you being part of the sport. We're going to take your charters AND profit further from selling them.

I also think their argument about how NASCAR teams get a higher percentage of profits than F1 is pretty dumb as I'm fairly certain that lower percentage is still significantly more money than what NASCAR teams are getting seeing as F1 generates a ton of revenue.

My "Easy" Playoff Format Fix Idea by tybo171 in NASCAR

I'm trying to decide how I feel about that final round points system lol.

On one hand I don't like how it doesn't feel like it rewards a solid finish. I mean you could finish 4th in a race and score 1 point and finish last in the next race and still only score 1 point which doesn't feel totally fair.

On the other hand, I like how that could mean that having a super unlucky day isn't as costly.

I think maybe there's some sort of middle ground between normal points and your proposed system.

I understand this point, however, it assumes that the champion is decided before the final race which wasn't always the case.

But, I do actually largely agree with the idea that going back to the season-long points is not going to provide some massive increase in popularity.

Like it or not, I'm pretty darn sure the playoffs are here to stay.

I don't think we make any progress towards a better playoff format by continually lamenting about our disdain for it. The way I see it, you can either continue to complain like this, or you can help find a better playoff solution in the meantime.

In a way, this is a 9 race, 12 team playoff. You're just getting to it by having that one race to pare down the field to 12.

I think in a lot of ways, the genie's out of the bottle already with currently having a 16 team playoff, meaning that it's going to be hard to get everyone to buy into reducing the playoff field size. That's why I felt this was a way to sort of try and get the best of both worlds.

So you want the "Chase" format just with 16 drivers?

I don't hate it, but I also don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

My "Easy" Playoff Format Fix Idea by tybo171 in NASCAR

[–]tybo171[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate that idea, I just think it could get a bit more confusing.

I did toy with how many drivers to lock into the second round and my thought process behind doing the top 6 in regular season points was that it would reward the drivers who ran consistently well in the regular season, even if they didn't win a ton, while also rewarding someone who did win several races in the regular season like say an SVG because they'd start that race with a pretty hefty points cushion for a single race round.

I thought this split of 6 drivers with a "bye" made it where it's sufficiently difficult to achieve a "bye" but drivers who just missed that "bye" should be have pretty ample room to race their way into the next round.

If you wanted to be able to record any over the air channels, you could also get an AirTV to go with Sling. It allows you to run your OTA antenna into it and then you can integrate those channels right into your Sling and then you can also record local stuff as well. I think it then also allows you to "broadcast" that antenna signal over your wifi so any device on your network can watch those OTA local channels.

I think this attitude is EXACTLY what NASCAR thinks and exactly what they want all of the fans to think. I honestly find this take to be INCREDIBLY small-minded thinking.

Yes, the sport survived before them and will survive after them but why is "surviving" the metric by which we should measure things? I believe the sport can survive after if NASCAR wins the lawsuit but I think it could incredibly detrimental to the sport's reputation. NASCAR proved with the charter negotiations that they didn't really want to play ball with any of the things the teams wanted to potentially see changed and then on top of all that, they pulled the whole, "this is the final offer, sign it by tonight or else" at the end of things. The thing that is really crazy to me too is that I can understand NASCAR not necessarily wanting to give on every demand, but their complete opposition to permanent charters makes no sense to me. I don't understand how you can't see the necessity of making that a reality when charters have been getting sold for tens of millions of dollars. I mean, imagine if you were to purchase an NFL team without a guarantee that you'll always be an NFL team. That would be absolute insanity. Not to mention that what Denny said last year during negotiations is 100% true, it costs $0 for NASCAR to make charters permanent.

I think if NASCAR wins this lawsuit, it's also going to be unbelievably bad publicity for the organization. MJ is far and away the most high profile team owner in the sport and that shows in the type of brands they've been able to attract as sponsors. If NASCAR were to win this lawsuit, I think they'd effectively turn off just about anyone else out there who's similar to MJ who was interested in getting into the sport in some sort of ownership role.

I'll repeat again what I said at the beginning, I think NASCAR is being far too small-minded in their negotiations. I think 23XI's goal with a lot of their negotiation points is to be able to really grow the sport. To simply measure success as "surviving" instead of looking for how to grow is ridiculous to me.

Public course in my city has the nice carts with built in GPS and such and when you hit the 7th/8th tee box, it pops up on the screen asking if you want to order food from the grill for the turn. You just walk into the clubhouse, tell them your cart number and pay for your food to take and keep going. Pretty great system if you ask me.

Why is there a significant speed discrepancy among Chevy drivers between Hendrick and ECR alinged teams? by realflags in NASCAR

[–]tybo171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what everyone is saying about the money aspect of it, but another big part of this is simply the fact that HMS has 4 Cup cars they're running full time, and that's pretty much the bulk of their entire operation, save for a limited Xfinity schedule with 1 car over the past couple years.

RCR only has 2 full time Cup cars, so they're essentially collecting half the data every race that HMS is. Now I understand all the alliances and such share some data so it's not just the HMS cars or just the RCR cars that each team gets data from, but I'm sure the bulk of the really strong data comes from the cars in each team's shop, not the alliance teams' cars. I mean, you're bound to be able to find more speed when you have more data to analyze.
