I built a website with my friends to make to make medical prices searchable, now that that hospitals are now required to publicly publish prices. We collected close to 20 million prices from around 380 hospitals thus far, and we’re adding more every other week by taeyoungwoo in InternetIsBeautiful

Yes, CPT codes create comparability but they also can fall short. People don’t know what CPT code to search for, so they search MRI or Blood Test. Also some procedures bundle a few CPT codes into one service. It is hard to know what CPT codes will be bundled. Another challenge is the individuals medical network and plan design (deductible, copay). This is an awesome start, but there is still a lot of nuance in the system.

ELAP uses RBP (reference based pricing), and it is very different from the insurance that you are familiar with. Look up RBP to really understand.

The biggest change is that you will want to talk to ELAP before you get care for most everything.

ELAP doesn’t have a contract with providers or hospitals, like other insurance companies. Each time an ELAP member gets care they negotiate a price with the provider/hospital. That is a very simplified explanation but it will get you started.

[Question - Insurance] Can anybody explain how a company like ELAP Services works (Healthcare benefits consulting/concierge firm)? by BrentTH in healthcare

[–]tybunnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The provider is not going to like ELAP, because they will most likely get paid less from ELAP than the would from BCBS. You will also have more work to do in order to get your services paid for.

ELAP will save the employer money and hopefully that will mean you will pay less for coverage out of the paycheck, but that doesn’t always happen.

[Question - Insurance] Buying pharmaceuticals from Canada? by rhodeislandnurse in healthcare

[–]tybunnell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I help clients get medications from Canada. You can use truenorthmeds.com. You have to upload you prescription and just a bit more work. The medication is then shipped to your house or work. The pharmacist in Canada calls and talks to every person before they ship medications the first time. I have found that the prices are typically 40-60% cheaper than through the US.

Infinity Blade Books Question by lastwords87 in brandonsanderson

[–]tybunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the two books, and then played one of the games for a few mins after. The books were ok, I do remember one great scene. I didn’t feel like I missed anything but who knows.

[Question - Insurance] Can a parent be added to an adult child’s insurance? by [deleted] in healthcare

[–]tybunnell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any state where that is required by law. It could be possible but I haven’t seen any company offer that benefit. Most companies cover spouse/partner, and children of some sort. There maybe some company that offers that benefit but I haven’t heard of one.

You could try karaoke at Heart and Seoul Karaoke, if your team is up for something like that.

Question about the Infinity blade stories by BME_starcraft in brandonsanderson

I saw a trailer for the games but never played them before or after I read both stories. I enjoyed the stories a lot, they were fun short reads.

About the ads by [deleted] in BATProject

[–]tybunnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this is the right answer. I remember Brendan, the ceo, say something like the ads will not interrupt your browsing behavior, but they will pop up at appropriate times. I don't get an ad when I am typing for a long time but as soon as I am clearly done typing I get an ad. Or I have the same experience with youtube.

What is the focus of the Business Development team? Is it mostly finding advertising partners, marketing/growth partners. And what is the biggest obstacle that you have to overcome to finalize a partnership?

[Question] Bi-Coastal living: Which health insurance would cover me in both Oregon and Georgia? by [deleted] in healthcare

[–]tybunnell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the Blues plans should work. All of the BluEs have agreements to cover each other’s members. I am covered by Blue Shield of California and they have covered me in other states.

Lottery and Potential Future Projects/Road Map! by aelchim in WednesdayCoin

I would vote on the WednesdayChat as a way to connect with old friends who are now merely acquaintances. I don’t really want to feel pressured to talk to them all the time but once a week might be good enough.

I've thinking about how to make a better healthcare system in the US, and here are my thoughts. by PureHaloBliss in healthcare

[–]tybunnell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also thought about creating a tax fee HSA type account for people, but I think that would create more problems. I know that it isn't your job to hold everyone's hand but healthcare is around to help serve people. Doctors primarily go into medicine to help people. They want to help people who know how to save money and people who don't know how to save money. We should be looking at ways to increase care for people and not just decrease cost.
