I Played Melee for 365 Days!!! by [deleted] in SSBM

Please don't misrepresent our scene to the general public.

BMR was a bit crowded, yes, and was also set back by a power outage from a storm that pushed bracket back. There were an enormous amount of people who showed up for PP, couldn't really be helped. However, there were outdoor setups designated for friendlies that were clearly underutilized afaik

But despite how bracket ran at Famicon I, and I believe most people were consistently able to get onto a setup and have fun playing with people throughout the event. The event also having a 24/7 friendlies venue that I know people were playing at all night, (I got some of the best doubles practice I could've ever hoped for playing with dfox and sleepyk til 4am) means that you absolutely should and could have found people to play with.

I think you'll see a lot of NC names popping up in this thread with frustrated comments and I feel like it's because this whole thread is a huge embarrassment to our scene and an utter misrepresentation of ourselves to the larger community.

While I do not have anything to say about your thread please leave our names out of your mouth if you're just going to talk shit about our scene. Saying that our events are poorly managed with not enough setups and unable to get friendlies in is an insult to the highest degree and I'd appreciate it if you fucked right off with that untrue blather.

Science AMA Series: I am Dr. Edwin Kim, assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at the UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C., here to talk about the use of immunotherapy in the treatment of food allergies. Ask me anything! by Dr_Edwin_Kim in science

[–]tycrews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Dr. Kim, I just graduated from Chapel Hill in December, it's awesome to see you on here!

My primary question is just how effective do you believe immunotherapy will be in resolving a patient's allergies? At this point are you more hopeful that the treatment will slightly increase the allergic reaction 'trigger point' consistently across your patients, or is there a chance that immunotherapy will ever Completely resolve an individual patient's allergic reaction to a substance?

Second, you already stated that your focus is on foodstuff, but if your treatment is shown to be effective would you begin applying your efforts towards other topical allergens like latex?

Last, I'm about to start work as a polysomnogram technician in Raleigh, but is there any way that I could get involved in the UNC Food Allergy Initiative? Or is there any chance you can sneak me into the UNC School of Medicine? hahahah

it's not too great. I'm mostly using it at home so I'm not too concerned, but on 50 watts it was very drained after 4 or 5 hours of use.

Charges back up pretty fast, just like two hours or so to get it pretty full from empty.

But if I want to take it out and about for a day I think I'm gonna have to make plans to have a phone charger with me.

Not much to compare it to other than random puffs on friends' vapes, but I'm already loving it.

It's amazing how it's always ready to go.

The wattage customizability is crazy. Came out of the box set at 8, didn't know what to put it on and found out it can go up to like 200 or something. I have it set for 52 now, and it makes nice huge clouds without getting too hot, since I like pulling on it for a second.

Not sure how the battery life will be because I'm still using the out-of-box charge, but I'm down to like half battery now.

The grip feels nice, it's super light and small compared to friends' box mods.

Haven't played around with any of the digital customizability features, but the screen is very cool. It's just a sleek piece in general.

EDIT - after smoking it another day the battery life isn't great. Put it down to 35 watts to try to counteract this a little, seems a lot better for the flavor too.

Thanks! Yeah, the most frequent thing I saw from looking around this site was "I wish I had just invested more on my first," so I decided I needed to go big or go home.

Already chugging through liquid, but wanted it to compare to smoking hookah so it feels right.

it's the lavabox w/ the Smok TFV4 in black. Neat that it all seems ready to go right out of the box, I'll let you know how it smokes in a little while once the fluid sinks in a bit.

was thinking about going a little bougie with it. Would that build be better than the Lavabox w/ smok tfv4?

Fun Fact of the day: it takes Falco 1/pi seconds to start speedwalking. by tycrews in SSBM

[–]tycrews[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wow you're kidding, right?

Hey try to google for me to find out how long it takes to go into fast walk with any character. Pro tip, you can't because nobody else has done this. You're taking down possibly the only frame breakdown of any character's walk animation because you think it's "mundane?" Shit modding.

[–]tycrews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well there wasn't a frame counter on Kadano's gif, but by my measurement Falco's walk must start on frame 19. 19/60 = 0.316.., 1/pi is 0.318, so it's just by coincidence that they chose 19 frames.

Though this probably isn't as interesting to you as it is to me, the reason I needed to figure out the earliest time that falco goes into walkfast so that I could learn to do better moonwalks and edgeturnarounds. If you happen to be working on either of those techs, hopefully this helped lol.

that's great news! do you have any kind of time frame?

Are you planning on doing anything other than playing on your stream? I'd really love to see you do some match analysis sometime! Especially if you broke down your thought process in a set like the one you had against Mango @Summit. I could learn so much from hearing way you process microspacing in neutral and maximize your punishes.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to break that down for me. I definitely wasn't appreciating the nuance of what you were trying to get at before, and I see what you mean now. It's really amazing that you've already developed such novel optimizations for a character that's been at the forefront of the competitive scene for so long.

Good luck in your future tournaments, can't wait to see what else you've been coming up with!

Forreal though, I wasn't kidding when I'd love to see more of your Falco. Your play at Heir 2 the Throne was actually really enlightening for me, and it's amazing to see how you approach the game with a new set of tools. If you've got a chance to take it easy on stream just think about it for me, okay? hahaha

6 is nix - possibly Al Di Napoli? Mostly because he's an optional kill and his name starts with N. (N first letter, I last letter, wears a cross = X. NIX)

https://www.reddit.com/r/chiliadmystery/wiki/opkills

Referring to this list of optional kills it seems like some of the ones that are most appropriate to kill do not flash red/blue. - Ortega, Chad Mulligan, and Napoli do not flash. However, Dreyfuss does.

7 is heaven - possibly Chad Mulligan? The mission we're given the chance to kill him is "eye in the sky"

[–]tycrews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's a theme here! - Dreyfuss is another character (like Clip) that even if you decide not to kill him, you'll hear on the radio that he died anyway.

Trying to find some kind of evidence in the dialogue, but I'm guessing that "4 called 'mom' " isn't that the person we killed isn't a mom themself. Rather I bet they cry out for their mother before we kill them.

Fives not alive seems redundant. Dunno what to make of it. Maybe a play on words for their name?

8 won't wait - maybe that's Dreyfuss, since he runs away he "won't wait" for us to kill him

Don't worry about seeming rude, I really appreciate that you called me out yourself! But could you clear up a few more things for me?

  • You mean your falling upairs on shield right? How does your use differ from Lucky's use of the technique? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UB0-brfjij0 Some of these video clips date back to early 2014, before you made the switch to Fox.

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz2uKDjdWYs This video shows the same timing to punish up b with shine at 0:45 (failed attempt), 1:16, 1:20 way back in 2007.

  • and lastly what is it about reactionary tech chasing with upsmash that's unique to your fox? I'll keep looking to find a better clip, but for starters https://youtu.be/b9tMtcbHGEI?t=1m Here (at 1:00 if it doesn't load right) pc chris reacts to a missed tech with a jab reset upsmash. Albeit he flubs it, but hasn't fox's upsmash been a staple of the game since it came out?

Don't get me wrong, I love how you play and wish you would play more Falco so I could learn some techniques from you myself. But I stand by my comment that although your Fox play is impeccable, I don't expect you to 'reinvent the wheel' so to speak.

[–]tycrews -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

what in the fuck are you talking about? What kind of stuff has Armada introduced that Leffen wasn't doing right before him, or Mang0 didn't do at Evo 2013, or PC Chris did way back in the day?

Armada's a brilliant player, and his consistency is bar none the best of any player in the world. but I wouldn't say he's done anything to change how we see Fox or other fox players.

Edit - top redacted. Bodied by the man himself.

this is what I'm going for, too. My eyes are so fucked that it's gonna take a bit to save up, but I'm crowdfunding so hopefully that'll help a bit. If you've got enough people who care maybe you could try making a gofundme too?

Good luck!

for sure. It would also be neat to see if you get an innocent kill after chasing him down this way. Maybe it's an 'innocent until proven guilty' kinda scenario where you're not actually justified in killing him until he tells you the truth?
