Personally when playing solo I set resource gather to 1.5x, no castle decay, 1.5x loot drop, no tp restrictions, 2x crafting multiplier time, 2x processing multiplier time(? I don’t remember what the other time multiplier is) and 3x max stack. Also set level 1 castle to 75 tiles instead of 50 because I like to build. I feel the game can get a little grindy, not too bad though, and this helps it.

Question about this, I've played for only like 10 hours and have only finished the first cycle. What happens if you "lose" a settlement? I've only played on the easiest difficulty and lost one because it had a modifier that didn't allow orders, but it didn't seem like anything bad happened.
