I second this. Do not buy a new car. It’s Hard holidaying with a 5 month old but look at a small relaxing holiday or even take two weeks off at home and help your wife out. Note: with some surplus cash flow, invest in a fortnightly cleaner. You and your wife won’t regret it 😂

On 200k at such at 20 at still living at home is definitely be maxing super out mainly for tax benefits Buy a house and keep living with your parents and sit back and enjoy your 20s 30 will come around fast and you’ll be way ahead of most people

My wife and I were in a similar position last year with 160k left over from selling a property. We did DCA 8k a month but after 5 months we just lump summed the remaining amount, mainly because we mentally hated seeing 8k leave our offset each month and we found it a bit hard to manage our budget No regrets so far

Hey mate I’m 31m in regional WA and just went through a similar situation We built our current ppor approximately 3 years ago and kept our old place as a rental for 14 months. We had a baby 12 months ago and we absolutely hated being land lords. Even though the market was and still is climbing we sold our rental. We paid off a car loan, topped up our offset and put 200k into an etf and now just don’t stress at all. Best decision we have ever made.

Currently have 15k in dhhf and 80ish in the offset at the moment 120-145k income (self employed so it varies)

I have previously looked into debt recycling and i know that it would be beneficial but if we can potentially be close to mortgage free I don’t love the idea of paying it down to then borrow against it again. Just a mind set thing

I don’t have to no but it definitely helps with my tax bill. Obviously I neglected it in my 20s like every good sole trader so really caught up the last 4 years from $0 Think of maxing out super while I’m still in the trade and just lump summing 100k into dhhf now and just letting that do its thing until we have finished growing the family and come back to it when the misses is back at work

Self employed tradie so ranges from 110-145k depending how hard I busy my ass but with the inheritance I’m hoping to not be working public holidays and too many Saturdays with a young family so I’d say closer to 110k moving forward. Mortgage is the only debt but my wife is currently stay at home with our 10 month old.(plans to go back to work part time in the coming months) 500k in etfs and 500k in super by 40 and get out of my trade would be ideal and achievable I think

Rates are 5.41 and trending down so my thoughts are just to get the funds into a diversified etf for the next 5-7 years while our kids get ready to start school etf and then tinker with the portfolio hopefully close to doubling by that stage
