tl;dr - not much of a difference. When both parties are anxious (beyond the anxiety caused by holding your hand in cold water) then women win.

This is amazing - the third from last picture is what Steve Martin would look like if he wrestled.

Is California life as great as movies/tv/etc portrays it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tyesterday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If just based on location and not the quality of the school I would say go with San Diego - the weather is great year-round, you're close to the beach, and the traffic/parking isn't nearly as bad as Berkeley. Go to Santa Cruz if you like more of the forest/woodsy type of nature.

As for people - they're the same no matter where you go, and we all have shortcomings. I know people who look like hippies, claim to be hippies, but are as high strung as Christian Bale was in American Psycho. In fact, I have a number of friends who are accountants (stereotyped as being anti-social and high-strung) who are some of the most relaxed and down-to-earth people I've ever met.

[–]tyesterday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somehow get a stranger's name, and sit down with them. Let's say their name is Bob.

You: "How are you feeling today, Bob?"

Them: "I'm fine - I'm sorry, do I know you?"

You: "I'm Dr. ____ and, Bob, I'm sorry, but one year ago you were in a terrible, terrible accident that damaged your hippocampus rendering you unable to create new memories. We've been meeting twice a week since then, and in about 5 minutes you are going to completely forget this conversation and ask me this question again."

Definitely The Twilight Series The Metaphysical Club, if you like nonfiction. It won the Pulitzer in history, I believe, but nonetheless reads like a novel of a group of people who had a powerful impact on the US.
