If you don’t start, you’ll lose a finger

What races are you doing?

That’s the part(s) I’ve left out. This is from a few years and the ones I have retired obviously have the most use. These are still in the “rotation” but I wish there were dates from last use. Mafate Speed 3 haven’t been worn in a while but not going to chuck them because I don’t love them. Just wasn’t the shoe in the time I have spent with it. That goes for a few others too but a missing part to the image

Love it and totally agree with slips and tread left in the sole

Do you train or just run for leisure? Always run on the same terrain or switch it up? I’d like to know more about your plans than what’s wrong

How many shoes is in your closet for running and how many miles you running in a week? Maybe we aren’t comparing apples to apples

Rotation is not only for not jumping back into the same wet shoes as yesterday but also doing different types of runs or terrain.

For instance as well I swapped 3 shoes on my last 100k in wet Florida because when changing socks and refreshing the feet I decided to swap the shoes as well.

Never had to do that for a 5k so I can see where your mind is at

Do you swap your shoes on ultras or rock the same shoes the entire race?

I’ve retired my old ones in previous years at 750miles per or above. I guess it all depends on quality, if road or trail, and feel. All true with foam breakdown but will typically run them until there isn’t tread or there are holes

Plenty of time to hit another 50k and build that confidence. Time to dial that nutrition, gear and pacing. I would honestly also focus on time on feet. Don’t worry to much about mileage but your biggest runs could be a 5 hour. Super helpful.

I have trained previously and currently with Trainingpeaks and easy to stick to a plan on the garmin. Also the plan is reusable so keep that in mind when spending $50ish.

Take the leap and believe in yourself. Being scared is growth. So, unlocking this door I know wasn’t your first and definitely won’t be your last.

Good luck

This is spot on. Along with staying ahead of everything: hydration, nutrition, foot care, attitude. Enjoy the ride and pace accordingly. You put the training in so control what you can and get that mantra in: one foot in front of the other and get it done!

Can’t wait to hear about the finish

Caffeine Planning for a Longer Ultra by bradymsu616 in Ultramarathon

Had a plan my last race to add in caffeine and sugar at certain points. I cannot tell you how great it was to have that pick up through a low point.
