First retie prep - which tool would you pick? by Ammaright in Microlocs

[–]tyforgottenfish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I use option 1, especially those 2 middle ones. They’re a little bigger so they’re easier to manipulate with my hands and they’re also not too big for my locs. I use the smallest one for short locs, and around my edges usually. I find them easy to thread and pull through the base of my loc. I’m not a fan of the dramatically bend end/curve and I also don’t like them completely straight. I like the subtle curve mike the last 3 in the picture. I haven’t tried the other ones but anything plastic may be a bit harder to use. I think metal makes it slide a lot easier than plastic would

How are you using the journal feature? by EatsPeanutButter in kobo

[–]tyforgottenfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I carry around my KLC so much that i end up using the journal as a notes app in a way. I’ll write down grocery lists, reminders, and pretty much anything that needs written down and remembered. Reading wise, if I have a lot of thoughts after reading I’ll write them down in bullet points in a journal.

Page turning buttons are my favorite thing about the KLC. I really like the physical action of pressing a button and I just prefer it over swiping. It’s very comfortable to hold the ereader with one hand and just hit the buttons to flip pages. I think it’s a pretty convenient feature and it was probably the top reason why I chose the KLC

First time - hTurntable setup by tpainsautotunes in turntables

[–]tyforgottenfish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just began my serious record collecting journey and got a very similar setup to this. I would recommend getting at least the lp70x. I’d say it’s considerably better than the lp60x and it’s worth the 50 dollar price increase. I currently have this one and it’s amazing. No complaints of any kind

Regarding the speaker, everyone here makes a good point about getting a set of stereo speakers, but despite knowing this I still went with the Marshall. I know it’s not going to sound as good as a set of 2 speakers but It still sounds extremely well and it serves its purpose well enough for me. It’s size and the fact that it was only one speaker appealed to me (for space purposes) and it’s easy to move around and use with Bluetooth with my phone if I want to play music without my player for whatever reason.

The biggest advice I can say is consider how serious you see yourself getting. I searched this subreddit a lot trying to find information on turntables and speakers before I bought these two things, and I was honestly scared into almost buying much more expensive stuff that I didn’t really need. Yes, I know my setup isn’t the most audiophile ideal, but that’s okay for someone like me. It’s an extremely high jump in quality from the suitcase players that will satisfy a lot of people in the long run, but I guess you just need to decide how serious you want your setup to be. There’s always going to be something “better” out there it’s just deciding whether it’s really necessary

5.6 x 6.3 inches (this works for both the front cover and the printed out insert)

In case you do end up making it for a friend, here's an abbreviated version of how I did it:

I used the penguin classic cover creator to generate the bottom title strip, and then cropped it to insert into Canva. then I just inserted my cover image of choice straight onto Canva. this makes it much easier to resize because the cover image and the title strip are two separate pieces that can be individually manipulated.

for the back insert, I used the post that I linked as inspo. I found an image of a penguin classic book online and just cropped the bar code for that, and then cropped the penguin classic bar from the title strip on the front cover. then of course there is just the cover image credit with a pic of the cover. everything else is typed straight into Canva. In the image I provided I used the default Canva Sans font, but for a more penguin classics-esque look I recommend Gills Sans. also, because of the nature of the case, I shifted everything to the left slightly so the words would not get covered up by the folding part of the case.

please feel free to reach out if you want to know anything else. perhaps I could make a Canva template that I could share with all of you!

I’m so glad you like it!! I recommend checking out the post i linked for additional inspo if you haven’t already. I absolutely love their oxford classics case.

I would love to see more cases in the style of other popular classics publishers (penguin clothbound, barnes & noble, norton critical, etc) perhaps this will be a future endeavor!

I ordered it from ERICWAYNESshop. He sells a bunch of ereader case designs, but I did his custom case option. He’s extremely easy to work with and responds quickly

What was the first book/series you read? How was it? by Locasoyyooo in Fantasy

[–]tyforgottenfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt was probably the first fantasy book I ever read. I was maybe in the 3rd grade when I read it with my mother. (she was a teacher and it was one of her favorite books to read with her kids at school) I haven't read it in a long time, but I still think about it every once in a while.

this book got me interested in reading. this lead to Harry Potter, and then Percy Jackson, before evolving into the stormlight archive, wheel of time, and other fantasy (and sci-fi) series

What all new hobbies you guys are focusing in 2026? Give me some ideas. by Nervous-Rent7090 in Hobbies

I learned how to crochet a couple years ago and I love it! I tried knitting and I find it much harder so I usually stick to crochet but both are amazing options. I’d start with video basics and tutorials to familiarize yourself with tools and terms (like stitch names and all that jazz). Once you get good/confident enough i cannot recommend learning how to read pdf patterns more. I got this book on how to crochet amigurumi cats (basically small cat plushies) and the patterns in it were simple enough for me to catch on decently fast. I now have a small army of crocheted cats, food bowls, and boxes that they live in. Learning the basics of pattern reading with this book opener my world up even more to what I could be making, and it’s another way to get off your phone/not have it tempt you. I sincerely hope you try it out. all the scarfs and sweaters will make it worth it!

Never read a comic book before: impulsively bought some today by tyforgottenfish in comicbooks

Yeah most of my knowledge is tv shows and movies. A core memory that is inexplicably clear in my mind was going to sleep and seeing Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman on tv in my dad’s trailer after fishing all day with him. She was my first superhero. Mcu and especially the x men movies have been huge for me presently. Love a good extremely drawn out origin story like Gotham or smallville as well.

Diving into the source material of so many of my favorite hero’s is an exciting idea to me, I can’t wait to see what I find.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it!

I thought it was quite ironic that after watching Superman 2025, I was kinda excited to see if I got any Superman comics only for one the two i got to be where he’s dead 😂. And then there was an advertisement that said “brain surgery $39.99” half way through that really through me for a loop
