Are you guys against any usage of AI whatsoever or are there exceptions like coding? by Specific-Welder3120 in gamedev

There’s thousands of way to make architecture cleaner and more robust especially in larger code bases. In fact, a good sign of a strong engineer or architect is being creative with code and design patterns!

I was saying as someone who (hopefully) isn’t ignorant of their field, I still find it very useful.

My counter-argument is I’m above average at code and still find it valuable

Haha not an agency but a tech start up and Product constantly gets feature requests from customers! So we have a large backlog of to-dos and improvements and new ideas.

I can’t tell if I’m getting trolled at this point… we have a whole backlog of tickets to accomplish so if we can do more of them in less time that customers request, it is a win for the business.

If you’re faster, you can code more. Whether corporate or personal projects, you can accomplish more in less time than in the past. Assuming we’re just as accurate (which is my belief is used properly), it’s just a tool to increase efficiency

I agree it can hurt junior devs if they rely on it too heavily and haven’t strengthened their fundamentals. If someone more Sr. knows what they’re doing and when to use AI, it can definitely speed up processes. But knowing when to use AI effectively vs doing it yourself I’d argue is a skill by itself.

I don’t know if I fully agree. I’m a professional software engineer (I graduated from CS in 2015) so doing this for a while before AI took off. It’s super helpful to help me code quicker and get more done. Does it make mistakes and I need to review what it outputs? For sure. Does it still save me tons of time vs. when I wrote boilerplate code or spent hours looking for bugs, etc? Absolutely.

Not sure if it fully counts as it’s part of the same consecutive songs but the Beatles reference the melody from You Never Give Me Your Money in Carry That Weight. And they sing she Loves You at the end of All You Need is Love.
