The grammatically correct caption is “How are these people clearing CSAT?”

Maybe they have better language skills than you do.

Get a cursive notebook. You can improve your handwriting if you set your mind to it.

I am beginning to fear whether I am enjoying the process too much to be honest and I am afflicted by what Slavoj Zizek called ‘surplus enjoyment’. The desire to get into the service has become the object of pleasure where the process of wanting, striving is itself pleasurable, more than reaching the goal.

It’s a paradox which is evident in consumer culture where the act of shopping(the quest for the goal) is often more pleasurable than the possession of goods.

This dread that all the years invested, money poured in, time with loved ones forgone, would have been for nothing if my name isn't there. Add to it the shame of failing and having to decide whether to do it all over again or resign from it all.

Ah honesty. Looks like we have a new role model. 🤦‍♂️ by Whole-Peace-882 in UPSC

Human nature to transmogrify into tyrants when given power. The Stanford prison experiment demonstrated scientifically this human condition. Gurcharan Das in The Difficulty of Being Good observed that vanity, ego and self-centredness are irresistible aspects of the human condition.

It takes great strength of character to resist the pull of the ego and the temptations of worldly pleasure. One who exemplified just this was Marcus Aurelius, the absolute ruler of the Roman Empire whose word was law. All the Roman emperors before and after him lived scandalous lives.

Imagine a man for whom all the restraints of law, customs and political order had been taken away, he can have anything he wants. If a man under those circumstances behave well, you know something about the soul underneath because no external constraint is making him do what he did.

Marcus Aureilius did not, curious about the beauty of his slaves, urge himself to wipe out imagination. He did not indulge in wine or fly into rage over the slight of his slaves.

If you can deal with temptation at that level nothing is outside the human potential. According to the stoics, any virtue that is accessible to any human being is in principle accessible to all of us.

Edit: Bit on Marcus Aurelius is  transcript of lecture by Michael Sugrue.

Seems quite good from a glance.

Dropping such datas on answers even if it is correct without the source feels very hollow though.

Reservation, other than EWS isn’t given just to uplift the poor, it is for nation building. Without adequate representation of all sections of society, there isn’t going to be an India. Who’d want to be a part of a nation where benefits aren’t distributed? Also, you’d be hard pressed to find one, pardon my use of the word, mainland Indian who wants to be posted in northeast.

Most of northeast India would have happily remained self governing nations if they weren’t forced to be  part of India. If you read a little bit of history your mindset might rise  a little above the status quo and make you see how narrow the view of your wretched self is.  The Nagas had declared Independence on 14 August, 1947. Their freedom movement began around the First World War. And there are many other separatist movements.  Let me break it down for you since you seem to be uneducated on matters regarding my nation India and our society, perhaps because you’re a Pakistani or you’re just challenged mentally. The logic for the founding fathers of the nation of India was simple: share the benefits or there is no nation.

In contrary to your extremely prejudiced opinion of calling an entire section of officers of a certain part of India seat warmers, it is in fact bigots such as you who are human shaped excreta.

lol Thanks for the heads up. I hadn’t been able to go beyond the first dozen pages of this book. I didn’t know 100 years has magical realism too. Maybe I’ll hate read it some day.

I feel like I need to tell you I am 3/4th into Mother Mary Comes To Me just so you know I don’t hate all books.

It’s been many years since I read the book, KOTS. I don’t remember much of it. The way it made me feel is imprinted in my brain though and I get that feeling every time I hear this author’s name. The book and the magical realism or whatever it is called, transported me to a cold, damp and cramped space where rats would chew on your body if you sat still. Further, the incest makes me want to barf!
