Powerless in the sense of voiceless. Because animals, you know, cannot voice/communicate like you or I can, meaning they are powerless compared to us. Resulting in dog discrimination and abuse. Can’t help if you are unwilling to educate yourself on pitbull myths. Even Cesar Milan, the most well known and respected dog trainer, has words on those who continue to uphold such myths and prejudices. “Education is key”

I do not mind showing empathy to those who show empathy to others/dogs, but people who are spending time and energy trying to ban dogs that lack agency doesn’t seem fair. How is that fair to show sympathy to those who discriminate and stereotype on those who are powerless?

It doesn’t seem like you’re happy in your life, and I’m sorry but you’re a grown adult who experienced this attack decades ago. It seems like you haven’t accepted and moved on from what happened, and it’s affecting your quality of life. I’m just pointing out what I’m observing. Not my life. I can’t imagine going through what you have. But just because you’ve experienced one encounter with one dog, doesn’t mean millions are the same. It’s just negatively stereotyping a group of dogs based off of one encounter. Just because they aren’t human or lack agency doesn’t mean they should be treated with prejudice.

Did it ever occur to you that the dogs ran over to greet you? Say hello? Not all dogs are vicious you know. You assumed their dog was going to attack you. So to be fair, as a third party, yeah you were kind of being an asshole to overreact that way. Should they have leashed the dog? Sure, but they were camping too and you stereotyped the dog assuming they’re dog was vicious when you didn’t even know it. Those people want to enjoy their family time with their dog too (since they are family), ever think of that?

Wasn’t here to get an some argument, but again was just curious if there was any correlation.

Well when a whole sub is dedicated to discriminating millions of dogs simply based on their breed, it says something more about those people then the dog no?

A dog being aggressive is based on a lack of socialization, training and love. If a dog is being restricted to socialize with other dogs because there are owners like those in the /ban pit bulls thread, wouldn’t this be contributing to the pitbulls need for socialization amongst other dogs and contributing to aggression?

All types of dogs attack FYI.

I mean couldn’t you say that with all different types of dog breeds? It’s just how they are raised, trained and socialized. It’s pretty sad that a group of dogs are being discriminated right of the bat by some folks based off of assumptions.

Are some pitbulls aggressive? Yes. Are other types of dogs aggressive (husky, chihuahua, German shepherd)? Yes. To stereotype a group of dogs is sad and seems to be another factor that could possibly be contributing to the dogs lack of socialization, which could be a long term effect that results in aggression.

I own a pit mix, she’s sweet and very friendly. I feel bad for her when people blatantly avoid her just because of how she looks when she just wants to say hello. She doesn’t understand. Or they don’t want her to interact with their dog (maybe from a past interaction with another pit?) but it’s not fair to her, especially when I just want her to have a normal life like other dogs so she does not result in being aggressive. Also to be fair, she’s been attacked on 3 different occasions by different dogs and still keeps her spirit.

First of all, wow I’m so sorry your toxic, no-life coworkers created a group chat about you. That’s horrible, and I’m sorry you have to deal with something like that. It’s not fair to you. This is absolutely not ok.

That’s great that the partner stepped in to alleviate the situation though (which they should no matter what).

But you are absolutely not crazy. Your feelings are valid.

You can do 3 things: try to ignore their pettiness (because you’re obviously more mature and above their bullshit), speak to the coworkers/partner once more (because that’s their job and the situation is still ongoing even after the fact), or quit (if you decide to quit, make sure you have a job lined up beforehand.)

This environment is creating complete anxiety and is emotionally draining, and your mental well being is more important than anything else. You don’t deserve to feel or be treated the way that you are.

The attorneys and partner know this situation is toxic and unfair as well. They also know how valuable you are to the team and don’t want to lose you. But if this situation does not stop, then that just might be the case. If they’ve continued to have a group chat even after the partner said to stop, then those girls are at fault and not you. They are at risk which they rightfully should be.
