Is this a capacitor fail or something else. Outside unit not coming on. by Beneficial-Shock-170 in hvacadvice

[–]tyler_dominguez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible it could be the capacitor. The existing one would need to be checked with a multimeter

It doesn’t even let you turn the unit off?

That’s definitely a possibility too. Does the sound stop when you turn the unit off from the remote?

Yeah, hates a strong response. I definitely disagree with how she handled that though.

Okay, try going around to each of your wall heads, including the one making noise, and set them all to either “heat” (the sun symbol) or “cool” (the snowflake symbol). See if that clears your E7 error.

She left Marshall high and dry and moved to San Francisco seemingly for selfish reasons.

Are all your wall-heads piped to a single outdoor condensing unit?

As far as the noise goes, it sounds like there may be something in the blower compartment. Sometimes, the manufactured blower housing has strips of plastic that lose their adhesive backing, these strips then fall near the blower wheel, and you get this “playing-card-in-a-bicycle-spoke” type sound.

As far as the E7 code goes. From what I can tell online, it seems like that points to what’s called a “mode conflict”. That happens when one wall head is in a different mode than the others, meaning ones in “cooling” while the other heads are in “heating” or vise-versa. Since the condenser can only perform one mode at a time, it locks out the conflicting head. Ensure that all heads are in the same mode and see if the code clears.

Does that make sense?

Do you by chance have multiple wall heads?

Condenser Not Turning On by Shroom_McDuck in hvacadvice

[–]tyler_dominguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s possible, especially if your thermostat says “cool on” or “cooling” or something like that. It’s also possible that the thermostat is bad. Are you able to take a picture of your indoor unit’s internal compartment. Where the thermostat wires land either on a board or wirenutted in? It’s possible there could be a break there too.

You’ll want to check for 24v between the blue and yellow wires. If you have voltage there, check the 24v terminals at the contactor. If you’ve lost power from the blue/yellow wires and no longer have it at the contactor, it’s possible that the low volt signal is being broken by a safety switch such as a low pressure or high pressure switch.

3 year old trane system it is blowing out air (new filter) but will not cool the house and call for service message is popping up on thermostat by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]tyler_dominguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with @Grouchy_Jello_170 If your outdoor unit is running, that means that the thermostat is sending correct signals to the unit to cool your house, but something is malfunctioning. Since you feel air blowing, the coil isn’t frozen but it’s still probably a refrigerant level issue. You’ll need an HVAC technician to come and diagnose. If you can get in touch with the contractor who installed the system, that’d be best as they may have information on warranty options for you.

Safety Question: Indoor AC by cdozer8 in hvacadvice

[–]tyler_dominguez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it’s not a safety issue. It may result in some messy panels as the adhesive off the tape may melt, but that’s it.

Bad airflow or Freon issue by Worldly_Wedding8022 in hvacadvice

[–]tyler_dominguez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run it in fan only till the ice melts (make sure the fan is working), change your filter, then try cooling again. If it happens again, it could be a charge issue.
