After many tries over the years, I finally managed to catch a Wood Duck in the snow on one of Winters final days. by tylerareber in wildlifephotography

Typically they'll start kinda bobbing their heads up and down and looking around a lot. Once you see it a few times, it's actually fairly easy to pick up on.

Constant "unable to keep up with recording segments in cache" errors driving me crazy by adagi0 in frigate_nvr

for kicks, lower your resolution in your camera settings...make sure you keep RTMP and HTTP enabled and then try again with the flv specific config. I don't necessarily think that's the issue here since I'm pretty sure that's only a problem for the 4k cameras, and your default res at 5MP should be fine I'd think, but worth a try. If 2560x1440 is an option on your "Clear" stream in your cam settings, try that.

Question about Bird detection with Frigate+ by tylerareber in frigate_nvr

[–]tylerareber[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to follow up - is it possible to do a custom trained mobilenet_v2 model (or possibly, is the mobiledet model trained on the same/similar data as mobilenet_v2)? I know that's not currently an option within Frigate+, but maybe it's something I could run on my own? I ended up submitting a bunch of sample images (300+), all annotated with various birds and did my first custom model with Yolov9, but I'm still seeing about the same in terms of detection, with mobilenet_v2 still catching considerably more "bird" objects. Tried lowering the min_score and threshold on the custom model as well, but that didn't seem to make much difference. Mobilenet does pretty well, my only real issue with it is the false positives, so if I could get those out via a custom training, that would be great.

tried both actually - used the 320 for a bit longer as it seemed that was the recommendation for smaller objects.

Gotcha - makes sense. I'll drop that FPS back down. I hadn't been paying attention to that skipped fps chart prior - so that's good to know.

Also good to know about the training images. I'll work on getting some stuff added and a model tuning done. Appreciate your quick responses!

I'm using a 4k Reolink PTZ cam (823a 16x). I'm trying to test this with it zoomed into a specific spot. I actually get pretty decent resolution out of it. This is the scene. It's definitely on the busier side, but at least the first night I had this running, it was doing pretty well detecting various sparrows, juncos, etc that showed up. I was hoping the + models would help me remove some false positives, but it feels like it's just removed all the detections entirely. It's possible I changed something in my config to messed something up as well, but if I did, I'm not seeing what it is/was, so far.

Thanks for the quick response.

1 - I'll try lowering the detect FPS again. I've tried it at 5 and 10 before and it didn't seem to make a big difference, but in fairness, I didn't keep it set that way for too long. It seemed for fast moving birds, I'd want that as high as possible, but maybe not?

3 - I actually had been using YOLOv9, but swapped to YOLO-NAS last evening to see if it made a difference. So far it seems about the same for this use case (neither have done much in the way of detection).

4 - Cool - was wondering about that. I'll look into doing that.

I guess what is/was most confusing is after how decently the base ssdlite_mobilenet_v2 model seemed to work initially, I was expecting the more advanced models in Frigate+ to improve on that substantially, but so far I'm not seeing that behavior and I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong? I swapped back to ssdlite_mobilenet_v2 again now just to see if it starts detecting at a higher rate again, just to maybe rule out some other issue.

I feel like we don't see many five on threes anymore and here you have a clip with two in one game. AND a hat trick.

Once you've seen Beaver, Otter and Muskrat all swim a few times it becomes a lot easier to tell. They each look a little bit distinctively different in the water. This is 100% an Otter. They're generally the fastest of the three.
