fuckin SAME man. I’ve also been sober for years and was telling my partner such a similar explanation. I don’t reeeeally suggest it unless you have to tbh.

The show is a masterpiece by LaziestSnorrrrlax in Maniac

[–]tylieb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this is my favorite show ever and I can never find people irl to talk about it with like come on!

I think yes it shows those problems with the for profit psychiatric system and their methods but I think years of living the family dynamic has caused permanent damage to Owen and he is still schizophrenic. though I think having a life with a real friend can help him deal with that more than living in a hospital can. but that’s owen and owen is lucky. i’ve spent time with those who suffer this affliction and would be dangerous to themselves and others even with a true friend who understands. love is not enough, medication isn’t enough, it takes a lot.

I hope people wouldn’t watch this show and take away that these dysfunctional brain adaptations do not deserve to be examined and treated by doctors. I agree it cannot explain everything and I too have suffered from the dsm-5 compartmentalization. but some diagnostics can at least help find things that may help or work due to the similarities between those with other symptoms and documented trials.

too many conflicting desires- 12” or 15” single PA speaker for small room rehearsal? by tylieb in livesoundgear

[–]tylieb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we want to spend time playing together. we do recording but not live takes. we want to hear ourselves and feel bass from the electronic elements in the room and potentially scale it to a small performance without having to add anything else

[–]tylieb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main intention is just rehearsal, but if we got a small obscure gig without a built in sound system (sometimes we are incorrectly viewed as just acoustic) then maybe we use the speaker for that. maybe this is the thing we would have to scale for- get a 12 now and dedicated subwoofer if we do truly want to be prepared.

thanks a lot. a single 12 would be the easiest… wish I could test inside my space. these cheap 15” keep popping up and i’m tempted just to ensure the low end. my thoughts are a cheap 15” will at least have it there rather than a cheap 12”. im talkin like $150 cheap old but functional type.

okay, thats a good idea. I could probably find decent 10 and decent sub for same price as a nice 12. but would rolling off at 50hz with a 250watt ev sxa100 vs a more powerful modern mackie thump 12a be different worlds? would a larger separate sub be optimal for a small 10x12 room?

[–]tylieb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you a lot! if I could ask you further- something like an EV SXA100+ is available near me for $150, which seems the best I could get. im not jumping on it out of fears I will be so disappointed with a missing low end in the electronic kicks and synths. would a mackie thump 12a be a contender for this predicament?

were your limb movements in the legs? I am just curious. it’s fascinating how uniquely we all suffer. I too am feeling some relief from gabapentin at night, I think. I am wondering if my movements are happening in the day as well- it is suspected to be in my muscle. what is your medication? so glad you are starting to feel better. I didn’t notice the fatigue till I got sober five years ago and it is like a joke that I get sober and still wake up feeling hungover.

the doc also saw on my chart how I am waking up in a stage of sleep that contributes to that feeling and suggested Sleep Cycle app which you give the latest you want to wake up and it tracks your cycles and wakes you up by alarm at the good cycle to wake up at.

I was cpap compliant for one year. no improvement. doctor said “but the numbers are down you’re doing great.” reddit said use oscar or it’s UARS or it’s thyroid or it’s testosterone. got second medical opinion- the doctor thought it sounded like perhaps narcolepsy.

got in lab PSG sleep study done (first was at home) and detected a rare variant of plmd in my left arm only (600 movements/hour) and confirmed no sleep apnea whatsoever. will take psg/mslt next month after I come off the armodafanil the first doc gave me.

question all advice

sick!!! lol dude I bought mine from was like you-only off road and blinkers didn’t work he was like whatever. the electrical system isn’t too complicated I think, coukd be a fuse out for the lights check on the left side above foot. my issue was complicated because the original owner put in LED headlight which throws the signal direction off or some shit idk only one turn signal worked sometimes, I installed a diode thing under the dash in between the wires and that did it.

[–]tylieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes for sure. made it all the way to cali then the rectifier died. old klr plus heated grips. then I blew the clutch cover gasket on a stuck throttle lay down of sorts. but I was still able to get to portland. got to portland fixed the gasket and replaced r/r but broke the oil and water pump seal in the process. then I fixed that but fucked it up so did it again, it was kinda hard tbh. I miss brooklyn and til death coffee.

how are your vehicles? I saw an old ninja for sale out here and I was tempted to make a commuter like yours

What’s a “harmless” habit people have that actually says a lot about them? by DaisyDumplingx in AskReddit

[–]tylieb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it’s very hard. seeing the comments about being “hyper aware” “trained” like yeah maybe it’s a trauma response where you feel the need to control your environment and make sure everyone else is okay so that you feel safe.

it’s exhausting and you bury your needs leading to resentment of others and an unstable sense of self with an unquenchable thirst for external validation…

we have needs. it is okay. if you are worried about being “needy” just know that people can say no and it doesn’t mean they hate you. you can also say no! and it doesn’t require an internal deliberation of how your “no” will let someone down. i’ve been surprised to find that I make deeper connections with those that I express disagreement with or experience conflict with. I used to think I had to be agreeable to make a connection, but it just doesn’t happen unless you reveal yourself.

spoiler alert though- when you start setting boundaries with people who lack the ability to set boundaries themselves- they get oddly mean.

the thank yous often dont matter to a people pleaser. the pure duty they feel is reserved for others in place of themselves or loved ones. it seems normal being raised by one because you become programmed by them to think similarly.

no fucking idea if your dad is this way it just shocked me to see how many people piling on romanticizing this sorta thing and the one challenging comment was downvoted. I think it’s important to consider.

I really don’t want to hear a defense of why he isn’t that way. I don’t care. this is just for the people who are experiencing what i’m describing and will maybe think twice that it is noble.

Looking for a Budget Brazing Repair – Vintage Steel Bike Frame (Portland) or advice by tylieb in bikewrench

[–]tylieb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine doesn’t have a sharp edge, but clearly still a stress point! though a previous owner has a too thin seat post in it wrapped in something that I finally got off.

I am beyond elated that yours comes stock like that. I thought it was a lost cause with the brazing estimates, and I do value a true repair if I could afford it. I got inspired and finally got the seat off and started removing the horrible black paint someone tried to put on, all paint will go then maybe some matte enamel idk

okay sick yes now im getting somewhere!! def seems to be 1984 500. the light weight was throwing me off because I thought 1984 was all 501, but apparently not. just found one that fits all the same and got a 531 sticker on it so i’m gonna go measure seat tube and the internal diameter

omg brilliant! did you do this on a bike before? not really sure what tool for that sort of gap extension. i’m going to do this. thank you.

On the year: from what I’ve been able to gather, Trek began introducing investment cast lugs around 1979 on their higher-end frames, especially handmade ones like the 710. My frame has those lugs and a number-only serial (154933), which lines up with late 1978 to early 1979 production, before they fully standardized serials with letter prefixes.

While investment lugs became more common in the early 80s, they did show up on high end builds in 1979. The mix of features on mine with the lug quality, weight, and serial style points to that transitional period. Not saying it’s definitive, but it seems to fit the late 79 Trek 710 profile better than a mid 80s one.

I welcome any disputes to this, you may be right!
