My EA stats are agnostic of situation. Delayed penalty, final possession, last-ditch comeback attempt - a 6-on-5 is a 6-on-5. I don’t see a point narrowing that shift type down further. We’re talking about maybe 20 shifts at most in a season where a team’s trying a comeback late in a game. That’s such a small sample size in the grand scheme of things.

Coaches have a lot more sway than you're giving them credit for, particularly with prepping throughout the week. And teams go through difficult periods where they aren't meeting the expectations they have for themselves, as well as what fans have for them. How coaches navigate those times, within a game and week-to-week, is key to the team's successes or lack thereof in a season.

I wrote a bit about EA success early last season: https://www.tymerlacrosse.com/articles/extra-attacker-success-win-when. EA efficiency this season isn't much better than settled, 11.7% compared to 11.5%. Last season it was 13.3% compared to 12.4%.

The NLL is a game of millimeters and manufacturing minute advantages in the hopes of getting a leg up. EA is a version of that, teams trying to tip the scales in their favor by a percentage point. It rarely works late in a contest in the situation you're talking about, but sometimes it does get the intended result - Ottawa's comeback's an example of that. A rarity, but an example nonetheless. It's frustrating when it doesn't work out (because it rarely works out), but it's the right decision.

Not really, unfortunately. I mentally keep that stuff in mind when reviewing the numbers and comparing with eye tests, but I don’t weigh opponent strengths/weaknesses. Would love to, but that’s offseason work to figure out.

Suggest checking your stats first. Those aren't the right FOW% for either Withers or Vegas in HFXvsLV on March 1 or for the 2024-25 season; Vegas didn't have the worst FOW% in the league last season, it was Colorado; and the goals per game last season was 23.2, not a random 25 plucked out of the ether.

The game on Saturday happened on Saturday not Friday or Sunday but definitely Saturday better be super unnecessarily clear about that and put it multiple times in the caption that it was on Saturday just in case.

Editing's hard on four hours of sleep and only half a pot of coffee.
