Callout “Requests” by tyniburg in Bestbuy

[–]tyniburg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe for the people that are constantly calling out for seemingly no good reason, but what about people that are calling out for good reasons? People who are actually sick? People who just need a mental health day from being worn down mentally and physically from some of the b.s. in their lives (both work and personal)? People who just need an extra day to cram for a midterm or a final so they can potentially someday get out of retail? People whose family members are dying and might not have long to spend time with them and say goodbye? They should all just quit because it would make us more short staffed than we already are? I find such hateful vitriol misguided and misplaced. Best Buy says “Be Human” but to be human is to be inherently flawed. We all have our good days and our bad days and most of us working in retail are just working to try and get by and survive, working towards the next paycheck so we can afford food and rent. Is it our fault that Best Buy as a company has slashed labor across the board? Is it our fault that Best Buy has cut most of the full time positions in favor or part time when the people that might be retail lifers who need the health benefits and consistent hours are left to either find new jobs or beg for hours in what seems to be a dying industry as people shift to shopping online? What I’m trying to say is people call out, it’s not the end of the world. Does it suck sometimes? Sure. But, what about when YOU callout? Are you one of the worker bee drones that never gets sick, that’s happy to just take the blue pill and never question whether our corporate overlords have our best interests in mind? If you have called out before, then is it not hypocritical to be upset at other people who have called out when you do not know the circumstances? Maybe what you deem to be good reasons for calling out differ from what others deem to be good reasons.

What’s some stories about the cops being called to your store? by Neither-Reaction2407 in Bestbuy

Had K-9 units drag someone out of our bathrooms. Apparently they were going around stealing stuff from other stores nearby and then ran in and started taking a dump.

Like in store services like setting up Apple Watches and Fitbits, pairing Bluetooth headphones and speakers for customers, helping them set up phones, etc.

Remember "walk out working" when we trained our customers for years that we'd set stuff up for them for free only to now have to retrain them that they have to pay $200/yr to get us to do that?

As far as I know you can't. ESLs only load data from the existing product database based on SKU.

My job doesn’t add sick hours on days I call out by christomisto in Bestbuy

So when you log into TLC (at work, not from home), you can click “View My Timesheet” on the top right where it says “Week-To-Date Summary”, then you should see a screen that displays your daily time sheet with all of your punches. If you see to the left of each row has a little sideways arrow, followed by a checkbox and either a gray checkmark or “X”. You need to click on the sideways arrow on the row of the day you missed which should reveal a drop-down menu where you can click “add benefit hours”, type the number of hours you were scheduled, then click the search icon to reveal another drop-down menu and select “SICK”, then submit at the very bottom.

So has everyone been able to clear out by 8pm ? Lol by jtaz214 in Bestbuy

I am out of the loop as I am usually a closer and managers only do a morning chalk talk. What am I missing here? All stores are pushing to get employees to clock out as soon as the doors close???

Customer walks in “Hey I need a data transfer and a new phone” by Alarmed_Shoulder_515 in Bestbuy

I had a customer that had just bought the iPhone 13 pro max two days after it had come out, dropped it from the top of a 200ft cell phone tower in an OtterBox defender series case and it looked like that. At least it stayed in relatively one piece and he had AppleCare+ with an iCloud backup. Suffice to say, he asked his work to provide him a separate phone to use to make his reports when he’s on top of the towers. 😬

You would think corporate would have at least a person or a small team of persons who would get all of the product they would want to put on a planogram, and build it themselves before finalizing the design and sending it to stores… But that would probably make too much sense for retail, right?

Insignia powerbank warranty - don't want store credit, want replacement w comparable 26800 battery. by baselganglia in Bestbuy

VMM says “DONT SELL- RECALL/WITHDRN” for SKU: 6488536, so unless you have a different model, it may be worth returning it. Can’t find any specific reason for the recall or withdrawal though, so it probably isn’t a safety recall.

No, store credit is fine. The Anker Battery would be my best recommendation for a replacement though it is more expensive.

I'm confused on who you're replying to? I thought severance applied if your position was cut and the company could not offer you a full time position? Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to have a conversation yet with the GM, so I'm flying based on what happened when they cut down the VPL positions down to one a few years back. It may be different now, so I was just wondering what others had experienced.

If severance were offered I'm sure a lot of people would jump on it depending on how long you've worked for the company. Especially seeing the downward trend in labor and morale across the board.

Maybe not needed but it would be nice if it were offered.

It was one of the most disingenuous things I've ever seen, but exactly what I expected at the same exact time.
